Just wanted to share my recent Japan tourist visa experience since I found Reddit super helpful while preparing my docs.

Timeline:

• Applied at Delhi VFS: 3rd Feb 2026
• Visa approved: 10th Feb 2026
• Processing time: 7 calendar days
• Visa granted: Single entry, 15 days

Application Situation

Me and my wife applied separately.

We’ve been married for 2 years but we don’t have a marriage certificate, so we didn’t apply as a dependent or anything. We just submitted two independent applications with our own financials and documents. We submitted our cover letter and itineraries in the same format, just changed our names.

We both had past travel experience to Switzerland and Vietnam in the last 2 years.

Documents Submitted

• Application form (left optional fields blank)
• 1 passport size photo
• Cover letter
• Day-wise itinerary (with hotel name, address, contact details)
• Hotel bookings from Agoda (all pay-later)
• Dummy flight tickets
• 6 months bank statement (just a normal printout, not signed or stamped by bank)
• 6 months payslips
• Leave Travel Letter from employer (again just a printout, no stamp or signature)
• 3 years ITR acknowledgement page

Note: Dummy Tickets

When I reached VFS, I had only taken a screenshot of flight details from MakeMyTrip.

The VFS staff clearly told me:

So I quickly booked proper dummy tickets online, downloaded the itinerary with my name on it, and submitted that. When I checked the PNR of those dummy tickets on the airlines website, they were NOT showing my booking. However, they still worked for VISA.

VFS Delhi Experience

Honestly, very smooth.

• Walked in directly.
• Took a token.
• Waited around 30 minutes.
• Staff was extremely helpful and polite.
• They checked documents properly and guided where needed.
