Day 20 - Share Your Blue Sorceries

We’re back for Day 20! If you want more info on this series, please refer to the original post. Yesterday we discussed White 3 Drops. Today we’re talking Blue Sorceries. Here’s what I run in my Legacy+ cube, 438 cards (on my way to 450), 7 or 8 on the Strix scale, basically no planeswalkers, and purposely powered-down lands:

[[Gitaxian Probe]], [[Ponder]], and [[Preordain]] are classic cantrips, the backbone of blue, especially for spellslinger. Not much more to say on these classics that help hold together and fuel so many cube decks.

[[Chart a Course]] is likely the blue card that appears in the most cubes, even more than [[Counterspell]], as it fits literally every power level. Perfect design, simple and elegant, and always useful. Just as good in reanimator as it is in tempo. 100/100, no notes, pirates rule, go get a foil copy for $1.

[[Show and Tell]] can feel more fun than good, but definitely helps expand the cheaty toolbox. A hugely impactful card, this can swiftly end games and/or lead to some of cube’s most memorable moments. The OG printing is among my favorite arts in my cube, and reminds me of building very, very bad decks around this card as a kid in the ‘90s.

[[Stock Up]]: As I’ve said ad nauseum, I think my winrate when resolving this card in my cube is almost 100%. Okay, I can actually remember losing one game recently after casting this . . . but that’s it. Before this came out, I was toying around with custom-printing a version of [[Fact or Fiction]] that cost 3 mana instead of 4, because I missed that effect in my cube after FoF departed for showing its age. Stock Up is better than what I was designing, and is now a p1p1 in my cube that I rarely pass and frequently splash. Also, I love that art. Absolutely nailed the flavor of the card.

[[Tinker]] is an archetype unto itself. What’s more to say? Few things in cube are more fun than Tinkering out [[Bolas's Citadel]] on an early turn with 20 or so life left. I don’t run Colossus for power reasons, but look forward to Tinkering out [[Krang, Utrom Warlord]] in the near future.

[[Echo of Eons]], [[Time Spiral]]: Classic Draw 7s, which will always have a home in higher-powered cubes. I love the [[Hullbreacher]] combo, and run it in my cube.

[[Upheaval]] is another cube classic. Not as powerful as it once was in years past, when cubes were slower. But this still a welcome part of the ramp toolbox, especially with Academy in my cube.

[[Treasure Cruise]] is often a late-game, Sorcery speed [[Ancestral Recall]], helping control and tempo decks gain advantage after trading 1 for 1 in the early and mid games.

Notable omissions: I’m forever tempted to run [[Timewarp]], but don’t think it would work in my environment with basically no Planeswalkers.

What are you all running?

Tomorrow we will discuss Selesnya cards
