Story Time part 2

I guess between tours the heads have these little enclaves where they live. I was talking to one them we’ll call him Jay cause I can’t remember his name. He was telling me this story where last year he got terrible poison oak all over his junk. So he would scratch and then bathe in the Ocean, that’s how these cats get down was to just jump in the ocean when they need a bath. Since he’d been scratching though the salt water burned his biscuits so bad. Nowadays he eats a little tiny piece of poison oak a day so he’s immune. The scene is about family not the modern day GDF crap thats all bullshit. But a philosophy of treating one another like family. Now that I think about it, it did have kind of a benign cult sort of feel to it. If I said or did something stupid. Which I did about 500 times a day instead of yelling at me they would say hey brother maybe you should be more gentle or compassionate or whatever. Everyone treated me like an adult but sort of looked out for me, I was clearly a lost sailor.

The intent and ideas behind the scene were to live a spiritual life unencumbered by consumerism and all the traps of straight life. I was treated so good by everybody, never judged. If someone dodgy came around Al would school me. Don’t trust everybody out here bro (I wasn’t about to) but I appreciated the gesture. Karma was a very big deal. You did good, were generous and kind because that equated to good karma. GD scene was kind of traditional in a lot of ways apart from the rampant partying they had pretty old fashioned gender roles. Anyway now for the good stuff night falls, Al breaks out the vials and we party like its 1999. I think this was 1992 or thereabouts.

So this van pulls up I’m going from memory and like three or four dudes jump out with congas. Not the little ones like the kind used in Salsa music and dude is beating a fire ass rhythm on the larger drums. Then he starts doing moose calls. Now I’ve had three or four drops of Al’s sauce. So everything is a bit off but the drums sound incredible like I’m literally in the drum. Then this crazy guy who is wearing like metal fucking cleats, with white pants and no shirt. He had short curly black hair and a full beard. Family I kid you not this dude looked like he just escaped form the mental hospital. He starts dancing in the parking lot with these ridiculous cleats on they seem to making sparks. Not a mellow sort of dance but a maniacal all out affair, like an acid doused tap dancer. I can tell Al is not amused by this character but nobody says a thing. He is irritating everyone but I get him and I laughed till I pissed myself family. Such a bizarre and random thing but there’s a real beauty there, that is Grateful Dead scene.

My first time hearing the music while high on LSD it sounded like the tape was warped, hell it might have been. Jerry really has a haunting voice. I was hanging out with this head named Karm. He didn’t want to listen to Grateful Dead at that moment. Karm liked hip hop and his favorite was Ice Cube Amerikkka’s most wanted. Nappy Dugout was his track. Anyway Al invites me to tour and sell acid. I should have done it but, I missed my regular family at that point so I declined. If you made it to end, I’m proud of you, Lord I was born a rambling man.
