11 Month Kitten Stopped Eating - Been to vet 5 times past 2 weeks
Hi all, my ~ 10/11 month rescue kitten, Louie, has been sick and I am at a loss for what to do.
To preface, I have been to the vet 5 times in past 2 weeks (1.2k so far) and still no answers. It started with Louie throwing up a few weeks ago, and I figured maybe he ate too fast because he usually LOVES his Tiki Cat wet food (I also have an automatic feeder). Anyways, a week later, he threw up again, so I was concerned. I have noticed he licks his lips when he feels nauseous, and a few hours after I found the puke under my couch, he puked again (it sounded absolutely horrible coming up, almost like choking), and it looked like stomach bile. Took him to the vet for that first incident, they checked his mouth, gave him anti-nausea, and we went home.
He was super lethargic and still not eating, so me being worried sick, I took him in again the next day. The vets absolutely love him, and given he has been in the vet way too much since I got him, they were kind enough to give me 3 X-rays for the price of one. We paid for a radiologist to examine them, and it came back normal. I was sent home with the GA food. He still did not seem to want to eat anything, except when I threw treats for him to chase, he was eating those.
Anyways, a few days later, he was throwing up again. He has been drinking water (he loves to drink water from my sink which I leave on), but from the kitten that used to wake me up by tapping me at 6am and running to his food bowl to now, he is a completely different cat. He barely pooped after coming home and having received fluids, so I took him in again the next day.
They were very kind and offered a free X ray, and stating we needed to fast him for a little over 12 hours, which we did. I got him to eat a tiny bit of his absolute favorite treat, being Churu, but that was all he had. X Ray came back normal..
Anyways, now he is on a steroid pill and anti-nausea pills they gave me for home, and they provided me with special Hydrolyzed wet and dry food, but when I try to hand feed him he licks his lips again, almost as if he is disgusted. I tried to throw more kibble for him to catch, but he seems to be having a hard time when trying to eat a single morsel, chewing it, dropping it on floor, repeat. Again, they checked his mouth, so not sure why that is happening.
They suggested we may need ultrasound for an unseeable obstruction, but I am just so confused if its an obstruction at this point, and I will spend $ on him no problem, but it is getting pretty damn expensive and I want him to be able to eat as he is losing weight.
Please let me know if you have experienced this. He is my first son, and my world.
