Traveling to LA right now?

Question — General

Hello fellow travellers,

So im currently on the fence of traveling to LA for a couple of reasons but more to that in just a bit.

Ive been living in Canada for almost a year now and the trip is coming to an end soon. In two months, starting in May, Im going to fly to Central America and hitchhike across several countries for a month before flying back to Germany.

Now here is the thing:

Me and my boys did a trip to California two years ago and I actually fell in love with the state and its nature. Since then I always wanted to go back.

So me and my buddy have been planning to go there again this month for two weeks but I dipped because him and his friends did changes to the itinerary that I was not happy about.

Hes still going and I kind of jealous because Ive been waiting to go back there for so long now. Therefore my thought was that I could fly to LA from Calgary for about 8 days in May and then fly from LA to Guatemala.

The price difference between Calgary -> LA -> Guatemala and Calgary -> Guatemala is not big.

Since Im already in Canada i thought I should take the opportunity since flight tickets are much cheaper than from Europe.

Only reason why Im having second thoughts is the fact that it feels morally wrong right now. I dont wanna go there and romantize this place while the US-Iran war could literally break out into the US any other day and also the ICE protests.

Im a filmmaker so I would like to shoot videos and maybe even document the trip a little bit but like I said, it feels kinda weird to go there now since US tourism is kind of a no go now.

Im happy about Cali being democratic so that makes me feel better and safer but yea.

TDLR.: Should I go to LA right now or go straight to Central America due to politcal/moral reasons?
