Worried my (F22) boyfriend (M24) doesn't truly know/love me for me.
For context, I (F22) have been with my bf (M24) for 1.5 years, and 9 months of that were extreme long-distance. My bf is incredibly sweet and constantly expresses how much he loves me. He is kind and understanding, and extremely affectionate, and I love that he has a sensitive side.
I am worried that he doesn't love me for the right reasons, though. This is his longest relationship, and his last one ended when his ex-gf cheated on him. I know this really hurt him, and he can acknowledge that it still affects him today, although he isn't controlling or jealous in the slightest. That being said, I can see that he gets worried, and tries to hide it. I am worried that maybe he is "love-bombing" me, even 1.5 years in, because he is in love with the fact that I treat him well. I don't mean to sound vain, but I am in general a very nice person (I have been told this), for example I bake him banana bread when I know he has a tough week at work, get him thoughtful gifts, text him after asking how big meetings went, hand-written cards, etc. Besides the point. I think he loves that I treat him with love, and I do love him for the mostpart, but I don't think he really knows me.
I'm a very creative person, I sell my paintings and write poetry. My bf has never shown any interest in this side of me, and it is a significant part of my life and who I am. I am also someone with an "intellectual love style" (apparently that's a thing?) basically meaning I feel most appreciated when we discuss deep things, when people express interest in my interests, and my input and opinions are valued. He does not initiates deeper conversation. He doesn't remember the little things, and a gift-giving incident made this very apparent and hurt my feelings. I have also expressed my dislike for a certain line of memes, (I don't know if maybe I am not being assertive enough?) but he still makes comments and shows me things that are very clearly not my taste, and in fact I find unpleasant and/or offensive.
A lot of our conversations over FaceTime are "I miss you", "how was your day?" "I love you so much" blahblah, and I feel like I need something more in our interactions. I've mentioned this, and I dont think he knows what else to say.
I am torn because while I don't feel truly seen, I do feel very comfortable and safe and cared for by him. He is VERY emotionally supportive, affectionate, and committed, and I know he cares about me deeply. I am also wondering if the things mentioned above will improve with maturity. He is a goofy guy, and young at heart, and also, this is his first real relationship. Can this still be love-bombing 1.5 years in? Am I looking too deep into things, or am I right in thinking he should know more about me? Grateful for any advice.
TL;DR I think my bf is still love-bombing 1.5 years in. I don't doubt his commitment or affection but I feel he doesn't know that much about me, or at least doesn't remember it or act on it.
