Monitor losing input connection

Hey all, I just recently bought my first curved ultrawide, MSI MPG491CQP. I love the monitor but have been experiencing an issue where the video input seems to "disconnect". Basically the screen goes black for a few moments and then comes back on... or doesn't come back at all and I either need to disconnect/reconnect the HDMI cable or just disconnect/reconnect the dock from my laptop all together to get it to come back on. Any thoughts on why it would do this and how to stop it from happening?

My set up is as follows -

Microsoft Surface 5180 laptop > HP G4 280W thunderbolt dock (thunderbolt cable providing both power/data/video connection to laptop) > HDMI connection from dock to MSI monitor via 8k certified HDMI cable. Laptops display res is 2496x1664 (recommended) and the MSI monitor is 5120x1440. Cables are all seated correctly as well.

Has anyone seen something like this before on their setups?
