Epilogue

On the distant planet of Saturn, Fictillis stood at the entrance of the ship, holding his dead friend in his arms, and cradling the body softly as if to comfort himself. Ahri and Tobias stood next to him, not speaking as they waited for the cargo doors to open. Once they were fully open, they walked out slowly into a field of grown wheat. A woman stood in the field of wheat, watching the group closely as they walked down the path in the field, getting ever closer to her. She walked up to them and looked down at the body in Fictillis’ hands, covered by a stained red linen sheet. Her face was hidden by a holographic blackness as she looked up at Fictillis, nodding to him softly while he handed her the body.

She waited for a moment, looking down and moving the linen away to stare into Kilegros’ empty eyes before speaking. “He should never have been with you.”

Fictillis nodded to her, not able to choke up any words as they followed the Eonvym down a path to a flowing river, finding an already dug-up hole in the ground, one that perfectly fit an Eonvym body. They all gathered around as the woman laid their friend down into the hole, holding her hand over Kilegros as dirt began to cave in and cover his body, the man able to rest now.

Far into the future, in a bright neon city, a young Eonvym was running across a building, his suit’s shoes clacking against the ground quietly as the sound of heavier footsteps followed behind him.

“Hey! Stop!” A much older Shaikyn yelled out behind the Eonvym, but he didn’t listen.

He kept running faster and faster to the edge of the building, leaping over the edge and falling onto the slanted glass, sliding down it before he was thrown off the building, laughing wildly as he descended quickly, passing all sorts of starships passing by as the neon lights shined around him. He sighed for a moment as he forgot his past in that moment, just imagining his future as his body blinked out of existence and reappeared at the bottom of the city into the street.

He let out a few more laughs as he came across a puddle of water, stretching before it. He smiled under his visor and looked down at his reflection in a puddle of water, his golden body leaning forward to catch his reflection.

The image of the Son was staring back at him.

You never said you’re leaving,

You never said goodbye.

You slipped away so suddenly,

And only God knows why.

In life, you were my brother,

My strength, my honest friend.

And though your life was cut too short,

Our bond will never end.

It broke my heart to lose you,

But you didn’t go alone—

A part of me went with you

The day God took you home.

I miss our talks, our memories,

But I know I’ll see you anew.

No one can take your place, my brother,

For my heart will still beat for you.

This first act was a joy to write. Almost 5 years ago this story was a standalone piece of literature I made for a couple friends when I had the time to. Thank you for taking the time to read it, and I am glad that this story sparked a larger universe.
