Cat threw up blood a large amount of blood yesterday
Hi there, I’m 24 years old. Located in Utah. I have a 6 year old short haired tabby that is neutered. He lost his eye sight in a bad accident several years ago and is almost completely blind. Yesterday we saw him throw up a a large amount of blood after seeing him nibble on a pothos plant. We suspect this is the main reason he threw up. He threw up very dark blood about 5 consecutive times so we quickly took him to the emergency vet. After waiting 4 hours they were able to see him but couldn’t give us more information without bloodwork and an xray. He did not throw up any more after leaving the house and hasn’t thrown up since. Due to the cost of the X-rays and bloodwork we opted to try fluids and medication first and they sent us home with a medication to help soothe his GI tract. Since coming home he’s been hiding and hasn’t been acting like himself. We’ve had pretty rough experiences at the vet in the past and I feel like not being able to see makes it so much worse for him. He hasn’t been eating very much which is very unlike him but has taken nibbles of food here and there. He hates the medicine and hasn’t been coming when we call at all. I’m very worried and don’t know what else to do. I’m just sharing here to see if anyone has had any experience with anything similar or advice on what I should do. I want to know how long I should wait before bringing him back to the vet, I’m hoping to not have to take him back unless necessary as I can see how much it stresses him out. I’m really at a loss here and have been struggling to not spiral about it, any advice is appreciated.
