Why don't hosts give their websites the same care they give the property?
I'm a dev who's been researching to set up my first property. While scouting Airbnb listings and Instagram for inspiration, I started mocking up what websites could look like for properties I liked.
One thing I keep noticing is that hosts spend so much time making the property unique, the materials, the styling, the soul of the place, the personality of it and then the web presence is either nothing, or a templated PMS site that flattens all of it back into a generic listing.
This isn't about discoverability, sidestepping Airbnb, or driving direct bookings from first-time guests or other technical setups. All of that comes later, or a PMS already handles it and can drive a custom site.
It's about extended branding, a <mypropertysite>.com printed on cards at the property, a corner of the web that feels like the place itself, not templates or put in the same box.
Genuine question for hosts here, why are you not setting up a website that your users can browse to feel the soul of the property when they search for it specifically? Cost? Time? Feels like overkill? Don't know how?
