First run of season 3. little hairy
North Texas has really been hit by the drought. I wanted to get my first run on the season on Bonham Lake but it's about 3 feet low. It's too low to even get my keel down on my Capri 14.2, The Bonnie Lass. Well This weekend seemed perfect. we got some good storms the last few weeks that got Bois D'arc lake full enough. It was fairly sunny and hit 90 today. Problem was the winds decided to outdue the forecasts. It was fine at first. 12 maybe 15 knots in the morning. I headed out just mainsailing. Kept my jib secured. by noon the winds died down so I loosened the jib and let her go. really felt good. But when I started to head in the winds really kicked up. Really made it a bugger trying to bring her in. And there was some kind of fishing derby going on. I admit it. I looked like a fool a few times. Never rolled her but that wind really made tacking hard. It would gust, I would try to tack and it would die down and put me to irons and as I was trying to bring her around it would kick back up and spin me back. the wrong way. Finally got in. And even though I didn't roll I did get on edge a few times, and of course my camera got wet. think it's done. So no pics other than 1 ready to launch. And I just put new lines on her but I think I'm going to have to redo the main sheet. I couldn't get the sail all the way to the top. About a foot, maybe 6 inches low. Need to look into that. Other than that she performed beautifully. Really looking forward to a good year this year. And maybe a new jib.
