Church/priests etc.

Someone suggested elsewhere the church might not be a normal church, but rather a church specifically built to worship the entity behind everything or the island itself?

Now at the very start in the historical society there’s a framed article about a priest being eaten by a whale. What if that (proper) priest was the 43rd passenger of original settlers, but never made it to the island; thus bringing it to the 42 settlers Tom speaks of.

Back in Warren’s days the Reverend is leading the group trying to kill Warren. But really Warren is trying to protect the people via the covenant. What if this covenant is the inly thing keeping the island from consuming absolutely everyone on it. Which would make Warren and the Boogeyman (limited number of sacrifices) the good guys.
