Even The Hobbit didn't have this much travel time...

SpoilerBook: The Eye of the World

Oh sweet Lord. I'm like 65% through this book, and they're. still. walking.

I'm enjoying the book overall (mostly) and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series. I actually loved the show (I know, I know, but stay the pitchforks for a moment)- probably because I hadn't read the books yet, so I was comparing the episodes to nothing. I liked the world and the plot, so I bought the books and I'm working my way through the first.

And oh, holy god, how are Rand and Mat still not at Caemlyn? It's been a small eternity that they've been separated from the others. Thom has been gone a short age. Every chapter, they travel. They busk for their dinner. They narrowly avoid a Darkfriend. They travel again. We still don't change POV.

My friend once asked me what happens in the first Hobbit movie, and I was like 'they walk! A lot!' (A simplification, obviously, but still, it's pretty true.) Yet never have truer words been spoken than that phrase for this book.

Does it pick up the pace again once they get to Caemlyn? Does the entire series have this much of an emphasis on the minutiae of travel details? Tell me there's hope, my friends, for my vision grows bleak!
