##Welcome

##Mission Statement

We are a community for the quality discussion of The Wheel of Time, a series of epic fantasy novels by Robert Jordan (& completed by Brandon Sanderson) as well as Amazon's streaming adaptation, the first audiobook recordings by Michael Kramer & Kate Reading, the second audiobook recordings by Rosamund Pike, the graphic novels adaptation by Chuck Dixon & Chase Conley (and continued by Rik Hoskin and Marcio Abreu) as well as the collectable card game, the video game, the tabletop role-playing game, etcetera.

##Spoiler Policy

We operate a spoiler policy to protect those who have not read the entire series. Please read and follow the spoiler policy, as the show's bringing in a lot of new fans!

##Community Guidelines (Rules)

#1. Remember the Human.

Yes, healthy discussions and lively debate about all things The Wheel of Time are encouraged.

No, we don't expect everyone to agree, and we know that passionate fans can sometimes get a bit too intense in their disagreements.

But we're all human here, unless there's an AI or two doing a remarkable job of hiding.

Remember the Human.

When engaging in these discussions with your fellow fans, please keep this in mind.

#2. Follow the spoiler policy.

The subreddit’s flairs & spoiler policy is there for two reasons.

The flairs allow fans to engage with the content they choose to, while staying out of threads that they should not be engaging in.

Using the spoiler flairs allows fans to engage with the content they want to, without fear of running into spoilers for things they haven't read / watched / listen to yet.

We were all new fans once, and the show's drawn a lot of new eyes to our fandom. Let's try and give them as unspoiled an experience as we can.

#3. Keep posts relevant.

If it is about The Wheel of Time, please use the proper flair when posting.

If it is not about The Wheel of Time, is this the best place to post this?

If you're looking for a meta discussion about r/wheeloftime, or have something to say regarding community moderation, try modmailing us first:

#4. Don't duplicate posts.

Karma isn't that important, people. If someone's already got a thread up about something, try posting there instead of forking the discussion.

#5. No low effort content.

Memes, reaction videos, award farming, karma farming, clickbait, conspiracy theories, and other low-effort content generally do not promote quality discussion, and should go elsewhere.

#6. No toxicity.

Necrohippoflagellaphilia: The love of beating a dead horse.

To cover some of the more common examples of toxic behaviours we've seen:

No, neither the Two Rivers nor Emond's Field were bastions of racial purity completely cut off from the rest of Randland.
Yes, "pillow friends" refer to female homosexual relationships between Aes Sedai.
No, your opinion is not an objective truth that automatically renders differing opinions invalid.
Yes, Robert Jordan was a progressive author for his time.
No, this isn't the place for your negative opinions about agendas, diversity, ethnicity, inclusion, race, sexuality, or 'wokeness as a whole.'
Yes, while other parts of Reddit celebrate toxicity, we don't.

As Dragonmount puts it:

We are not anti-negative opinions about the Show or the Books. We are anti-asshole about it.

Please note that this is not a comprehensive list, and that moderator discretion regarding toxicity will apply.

Remember that everyone here is a fan of The Wheel of Time.

This includes your friendly neighborhood modteam.

Do not accuse your fellow fans of shilling, not being a honest / pure / true fan, or the like.

Don't do it for anyone involved with the creation of official The Wheel of Time content, either.

We can't stop militant segments of the fandom from dividing into 'camps' that take issue with those of other 'camps', but we can (and will) expect everyone to keep the rules in mind, and stick to healthy discussion of their disagreements.

Remember your Reddiquette.

Try to keep Wheaton's Law in mind.

Refrain from hyperbolic engagement.

Please let the dead horse rest in peace.

#7. No violation of Reddit's Content Policy / Rules.

Reddit has a content policy / rules that all users of Reddit are expected to follow. Likewise, Reddit Administration holds all moderators accountable to the Moderation Code of Conduct, including the removal of content that violates any of the eight site-wide rules in their communities.

When the modteam removes violative content, it's not just because it's the right thing to do, it protects the community.
