Breakfast for lunch, eggs and egg whites with spinach and cheese, turkey sausage, and overdone (on accident) hash browns. 

Pretty much as the title said. I financed a used car back in September 2025. I LOVE this car. It’s a “sports” car, very much an entry level one and not fast or fancy but it’s mine. I feel very attached to it, because it’s the first time in my life I’ve ever been able to own a car on my own without financial help from someone else. Three months after buying it, the engine blew up. Unfortunately it’s a common and known issue with these specific cars, but mine had very low mileage so we never saw it coming. 

I live with my boyfriend, who’s a very skilled robotics engineer and mechanic. He can fix literally anything. When the car broke down, he assured me he could fix it within a couple of weeks. I bought a used engine that needed some rebuilding, he kept saying it was perfect and he’d do it no problem. Fast forward five months and he still hasn’t done it because the used engine I bought needed more work than he originally anticipated. So I bought a different one that needed less work, according to him. It STILL sits dead in the driveway. I have so much anxiety over this. I want my car back. I NEED my car back. He says that he’s had other projects that have taken priority but keeps saying “it’s the next thing on the list!” He’s had plenty of time to do it. It will only take him a couple days of work. He’s also said that because of me, it’s taken longer because I keep asking if he has an idea of when it will be done and that puts pressure on him. I will usually leave the topic alone for a month or two at a time before bringing it up again, in tears, out of frustration. I have other vehicles to drive, his cars, but they’re so nasty on the inside and always feel like they’re going to fall apart when I drive them. 

I’ve offered to sell it and get something else. I’ve offered to take it to a shop to have it fixed. He refuses, because now it’s a matter of pride for him to fix it. It’s totally ruined the whole thing for me, it’s the one thing we fight about and now I feel like when it does miraculously get fixed, the experience of driving it is soured. I’ve tried so hard to be patient and offer other solutions so he doesn’t have to deal with it. I feel stuck relying on him for a spare vehicle. What do I even do now? He only works on it when I coax him down to the garage and hang out in there with him, which I don’t mind doing. But last night we were down there for hours and he pretty much just sat and stared at the engine the whole time instead of working on it. I don’t know what to do at this point. 

TLDR; BF keeps saying he’s going to fix my car, but it’s been 7 months and I can’t keep waiting around for him to do it. 

Boyfriend promised he’d fix my car. It’s been sitting for 7 months and I’m at my wits end.
