Got offer from WUM. Need honest advice from current English Division students
Hey everyone,
Long post but I'd really appreciate honest input from people who've actually been through this, especially any Australian or English Division students at WUM.
My situation:
I'm doing a double degree, and have completed one of it. I've received an offer from the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) English Division, program starting October 2026.
I did GAMSAT, and currently waiting on outcome. Realistically my chances at Australian schools are very low given how competitive GAMSAT scores have become year on year.
The decision I'm facing:
If I go to WUM in October, I leave with just a Bachelor deg (taking early exit from my double degree) and move to Warsaw. Honours and Masters path is permanently closed.
If I stay and finish, I graduate with Bachelor (Hons) + Masters by December 2027, which strengthens my Ireland/Australian school options but that's another 18 months of uncertainty with no guarantee of getting in anywhere.
Questions for current WUM English Division students (or recent grads):
How organised is the English Division really? I've seen horror posts here https://www.reddit.com/r/medicalschoolEU/comments/vqd5wl/medical_university_of_warsaw_non_eu_australian/, https://www.reddit.com/r/medicalschoolEU/comments/vqd5wl/medical_university_of_warsaw_non_eu_australian/ is WUM genuinely different or the same situation?
How hard is Year 1 specifically? What does a typical week look like and what resources do you actually use to study?
Are the exams MCQ, written, oral or a mix? How many attempts do you get if you fail?
Is there a culture of sharing past exam papers like at PUMS, or are the exams genuinely independent each year?
How are the clinical years (Years 4-6) for English Division students do you actually get meaningful patient exposure or are you mostly observing? How do you manage with Polish-speaking patients?
For any Australians or non-EU grads there what is your plan for returning home after graduation? Are you going PLAB → GMC → competent authority pathway back to Australia, or are you planning to sit AMC exams directly? Which do most people at WUM plan to do?
Is IELTS required for GMC registration after WUM? I've seen mixed info about whether the English Division program counts as proof of English proficiency for GMC.
For anyone who has gone through the PLAB pathway after a Polish med degree:
How long did it realistically take from graduation to getting GMC registered and finding a job in the UK? Did you do UK foundation years or go straight to trust doctor/SHO posts? And did you ultimately return to Australia or stay in UK/Europe?
I know the Reddit posts I've seen are mostly about other unis which seems terrible, just want to know if WUM is in a different league or if the same issues apply.
Thanks in advance any honest input is hugely appreciated. Feel free to DM if you don't want to post publicly.
