NC or Michigan?

My husband and I are trying to decide whether we want to move to North Carolina or Michigan. He (29M) is an auto body painter and I (28F) cut men’s hair. We have a 4 month old baby and I want to take a pause on working until she’s a little older. Problem is we live on the coast of Massachusetts where it’s insanely expensive. It’s so expensive here we rent from his parents and still barely have money left over. We’re very hard working and just want to find a nice place to raise a family. We like the seasons, don’t mind colder weather. We love the outdoors and camping. Ideally we wanted to move to Maine but he can’t find a job there. There’s a potential job in Sterling Heights, Michigan but it seems so different than New England. North Carolina has a lot of auto body jobs but we’re worried about overcrowding and whether it’s safe to raise a family there. Any help would be appreciated!
