Adult here. Vets and eye doctors are already on board with awhile now. So this has been hard. I was brought up with cats and as an adult have had cats. The longest lasted 13 years with me before getting a brain tumor that caused its eye to bulge. Prior to that I lost a cat whose digestive tract became blocked and necrotic. The vet believed it was a genetic condition. These have all been a heavy loss on my family which includes teenagers who love our cats. We take care of our cats, well fed, played with, lots of selfies, mandatory vet visits several times a year, no expense spared in whatever they need.

This year my wife got ill. My children and her wanted a new indoor cat. They went looking for a kitten online and found someone who had a kitten they all liked. They visited the kitten twice to make sure it was what they wanted. They took the kitten home.

Within a week after the kittens first inoculation my eldest daughter noticed one of the eyes didn't look right. We went to the eye doctor who set about trying to figure out what was wrong. The kitten got cleaners, drops and eventually pills but the eye kept expanding and eventually with a pressure test the kitten was diagnosed with glaucoma.

Treatment failed. This week there was a blood test and while not confirmed to be FIV the blood under the microscope had suspicious indicators of FIV. We will know soon but might as well assume FIV.

The kitten does not appear to be in pain. The kitten is playful. Cooperative in treatment. Takes medicine. This week the kitten may have to undergo enucleation. The problem is that due to the FIV it may not survive the procedure.

My wife's illness is foremost. We are all terribly stressed because of that and now the kitten. My wife has had a good prognosis she has to go through a lot of treatment that is not easy. So instead of the kitten helping to calm her things have gone completely the wrong way in the worst way possible. Even I am stressed. We are all sad. The children are coping and somewhat positive but it's taking its toll. The kittens treatment expenses just flew up by a few extra digits but again, we will pay whatever it takes.

We got even more bad news that the other eye is infected. Everything is pointing at FIV being the cause. I am having trouble understanding how our kitten got FIV. The kitten has not been in contact with any other living thing except ourselves since we got him. I don't understand how the 'breeder' could have a kitten with FIV and not know a parent cat has it. Is it possible that when we took the cat to the vet for it's first inoculations that it got it there?

The symptoms started after the first inoculation. That eye doctor vet originally thought it could have been a reaction to the inoculation. Now I'm starting to think he got the FIV at the vets during that first inoculation but honestly I don't know what to think anymore.

All very stressful as you can imagine. Would like to talk with people here who have had experience with this before. The kitten has an eye doctor and two vets so is well looked after medically in that respect.
