Hi everyone, I adopted a male cat in April to join my other male cat. They are both neutered, the resident cat is 3, the new cat is 1. I slowly introduced them using the Jackson galaxy method. I room swap every day, and we have gotten to the point of very short hangout sessions. I noticed a few weeks after he had moved in that he started peeing on the floor outside his litter box. He was also being aggressive with my resident cat, biting his throat and making him gag, just won’t leave him alone and bullies him.

I took him to the vet and they put him on pain meds and prescription food. After the pain meds didn’t make a change, they started him on amitriptyline 5 mg. Along with this I have two feliway diffusers, he is on a calming probiotic, and I play with him 3-5 times a day.

It’s been about 5 weeks since I started him on the meds and he has not really changed. He is still peeing on the floor but being slightly less aggressive (still bullying the other cat) I took him to the vet again, the ultrasound and xray showed nothing. Back on urinary food and vet told me to max out his meds at 10 mg. I believe that he just hates the basecamp he is in, and I have went back and reintroduced them, but nothing has changed. I feel awful for putting him on medication and the last thing I want to do is up his meds. I am at such a loss at what to do. I can’t let him out of his room as he will attack my other cat, and I’m starting to give up. I would appreciate any advice or tricks that worked with you guys. I feel like I’ve tried a lot and am getting to my limit.

Thank you.
