Bikepacking tent : X-Dome 2 and alternatives
Hello everyone!
I am a French cyclist into hiking and bikepacking. My current tent is a Tarptent Stratospire 2, which is quite good for hiking but did not really satisfy me during my last bike packing trip in Jura. I am using the Z-Flick poles to set it up while bike packing (and they are really great!) but my main issue was with condensation :
the places where we slept had a really high level of humidity, meaning a lot of condensation was inside the fly when we woke up. On its own, this is no biggie but as it is quite tedious to separate the inner / outer and the tent cannot stand on its own with inner only, it meant that packing the bags in the morning was quite annoying.
After this experience, I decided to look for freestanding (semi-freestanding are allowed too but less convenient) tents to replace the Stratospire while bike packing.
My friend has a "traditional" freestanding tent (like the hubba hubba) with the fly that its put on to the pole structure, which allows to remove it easily in the morning and drying it while still having the inner up (to hold sleep temps in the meantime).
I was looking at the X-Dome 2 (as I know it's a really good tent), but saw that the structure with regards to the fly / inner is quite different, and does not allow for such an easy removal of the fly. I found this reddit post that was talking about this exact point on the X-Dome 2 and how it was kind of annoying to deal with the structure when drying the fly in the morning.
I wanted to know if you guys have any experience with this, and if you have recommendations for the X-Dome (or other tents!) for bike packing.
I primarily looked at tents with a rectangular interior that was at least 210cm long and 130cm wide (BA CS UL2 XL, MEC Volt LT 2, MSR Hubba Hubba LT 2, etc...)
Thank you for your help and insight!
