What's the resident doing?

Resident has been neutral, only watching from a far, ocasionaly chases kitten, and it sems like play but he will smack him down and smell, sometimes he keeps smaking, and then runs away.

Kitten has been here for 3 weeks, started with scent swaping, then fed them on oposite sides of a mesh fence, and now they can hang out, resident leaves him be mostly, and kitten doesn't get too close (otherwise he gets smacked, smacking has decreesed over time).
