Hello,

My newest cat (3 yo grey NM, adopted 7 months ago, suspected stray who was neutered less than a week before adoption) has been a bit of a behavioral puzzle. He and my other cats (4yo spayed female tabico in vid + 15yo NM) have not gotten along, but have never actively fought (thankfully).

Still, we gave them a VERY slow introduction period over the course of 5 months (January through May) and it has only been in the last two months that all three cats have been allowed in the shared space with supervision. The reason for this slow introduction is due to behavior like that in the video—sometimes he gets in their faces, sometimes he raises his hackles, sometimes he chases them. Very rarely, he pounces on them and then rolls away. Besides that, they’ve never had a classic “fight” with claws and teeth. I find the way that he’s acting to be really strange, even after having fostered and introduced many cats to each other over the years.

Thankfully, he was just approved to be on prozac and started it a week ago, so hopefully that can help. But I’m still really puzzled over the behavior and body language—is he scared of them? Is this aggression? Is he just weird?

Sometimes he also runs at them, but when they hiss or growl, he’ll lay down or walk away. A lot of the time, he approaches them with a question-mark tail and seems genuinely confused when they don’t respond the same way. They occasionally all do nose touches and sniffs, and will sleep in the same rooms. I’m really just looking for any insight because at this point I can’t even figure out what he thinks is happening in these interactions 😭

Cat interaction help?
