Hello! Please forgive me if this is scattered. Let me lead with the questions:

1. I live in Australia - what would be some nice healthy wet food alternatives to Whiskas to start introducing into his diet? I hear mixed things about Hills or Royal Canin when speaking to anyone who isn't a vet and those are the two that vets generally recommend.
2. X-Rays have confirmed that he is experiencing growth plate issues in his back legs. Currently we have him restricted to just our bedroom for a week, with one of us always being present for him to have company. Is this just normal in some lankier cats? Can I introduce something to his diet to help him?

Context: So the CDS gave my partner and I our beautiful little one last year. We found him at the start of March and the vets estimated that he was roughly a month old. He is neutered. 

Upon deciding to keep him, I have deep dived into getting as much knowledge as I can about caring for him. We agreed that he would be on a wet food diet with biscuits acting as treats. Unfortunately, Whiskas is the best we've been able to do so far, but we might be able to supplement a third of every meal with something healthier. We just don't know what.

Now he's a year and a half, he's been having some growth plate issues with his back legs. Every so often they'd wobble or he'd start limping. It's made the vets are concerned that perhaps he was much younger than they originally thought.

Since he was abandoned, my Mum is worried he didn't get enough time with his mother's milk. She's suggested colostrum, but when I looked into it, it does say to not take unless working with your vet and to be honest, I don't know why my vet wouldn't have suggested it if it was potentially helpful.

I'm afraid of being driven toward expensive surgeries that he may not need. Which is to say, I'd rather give him rest and improve his diet if they might help before making him experience the additional stress that surgery will cause.
