I Want It Back - by Me
I want it back.
I want it back to normal.
I want the good mornings and the goodnights.
I want the ‘how are youuu?’ that actually waited for an answer.
I want the ‘I miss you xx’ that didn’t need a reason.
I want your hand finding mine like when we were on the ferry.
I want the hugs that said more than words.
I want the looks that we gave each other across the crowded coach.
I want to play bingo, the small thrill of beating you (again).
I want to sit on the beach just enjoying your presence.
I want the little things, the ordinary things that didn’t seem important until they were gone.
I want it all, and I want it with you.
It can still be something.
We can still be something.
Something better.
Something deeper.
Something that we haven’t had the chance to discover yet.
I don’t understand it all yet.
All I understand is that I don’t want to give up.
All I understand is that I want it back.
Context: This is the first poem that I’ve ever written (that hasn’t been for school, that was years ago anyways). I was recently broken up with and this is for her. I’ve tried to make it specific to our relationship.
