How to deal with DOMS/Muscle Strain?
Not asking for medical help, I’m asking for advice on how to recover from severe DOMS/a muscle strain.
Today is Friday night; I went to the gym Tuesday. During a workout, my legs felt like jello/very weak. The workout consisted of stair runs (nine flights), treadmill, lunges, burpees, and jump roping. After I was done, they felt tired but there was not much pain. The following day I had a little bit of trouble going up and down the steps, but nothing crazy. Thursday morning, my right leg was in excruciating pain every time I’d go up/down the steps and when I would bend it. It has caused so much pain that I went to the ER today because I pretty much have no mobility in it. When I lay down on my back, I can’t lift it and I still can’t bend it. My left leg was also sore for the past few days but did not feel anything like my right leg. If anything, the pain has gotten worse in my right leg instead of better and it has been over 72 hrs now.
The pain is in the inner and outer part of my quad and it hurts to touch. When I do try to bend it, my leg just stops bending; it feels tight, sore, and as if it is being restricted.
Today, when I was at the ER the dr basically said “oh you need to take it easier when exercising”. I felt like no one really understood my pain. The dr also said “were you exercising to lose weight? because the last time you were here… you weighed less” and kind of laughed after (I last visited this particular hospital about seven years ago when I was a teenager). I just felt like I wasn’t taken seriously. They gave me a Lidocaine patch, Tylenol (nothing to take home), and told me to exercise at home and bend my leg even though I told them numerous times that I physically cannot bend it.
Sleeping/laying down has also become a nightmare. I can’t get comfortable no matter what I do. I even try to elevate it but still no relief. The pain woke me up at 4am.
This is the first time this has happened to me and I am not sure about what to do. Thank you!!
