alliteration vs assonance

Alliteration is the repetition of the same initial consonant sound in nearby words or syllables. For example, "The wild winter wind whipped at William's wig."

Assonance is the repetition of similar vowel sounds close to one another in a text. For example, "A dry light rises high in the bright sky."
