Canada is investigating Chinese truck tires for alleged dumping — could tire prices be affected?

📰 Industry News

Canada has officially opened an investigation into truck and bus tires imported from China, looking at whether they're being dumped into the Canadian market at unfairly low prices or benefiting from subsidies.

The investigation covers a pretty wide range of commercial tires, including 17.5", 19.5", 22.5" and 24.5" sizes, and even includes certain new and retreaded tires whether or not they're imported already mounted on wheels.

The complaint came from the Canadian Retread Manufacturers Association and Michelin North America (Canada).

The CBSA expects to make its preliminary decision by November 30, 2026, and provisional duties could potentially follow.

This could get pretty interesting for fleets and commercial tire buyers if duties eventually push some low-cost imports higher.

Do you think cheap imported truck tires are hurting the Canadian tire industry, or is more competition ultimately better for buyers?
