Continental recently introduced the Conti Eco HT 5, a trailer tire designed heavily around fuel efficiency.

The company says the tire offers around 12% lower rolling resistance compared with its predecessor.

That might not sound particularly exciting compared with horsepower or performance numbers, but for commercial fleets running thousands of kilometres every week, even relatively small efficiency improvements can add up quickly.

Tires are one of the biggest sources of rolling resistance on a vehicle, which is why commercial tire companies put so much effort into compounds, tread design and casing construction.

There's always a balancing act though.

Most of us pay the environmental/tire recycling fee and probably don't think much about what happens afterward.

But Orillia, Ontario has reportedly accumulated roughly 5,000 scrap tires at its waste-diversion facility, enough that the city temporarily restricted commercial tire drop-offs.

Around 70% of the tires coming into the facility were apparently from commercial sources.

Ontario has also increased its tire recycling target, which makes the situation particularly interesting.

Used tires can eventually become things like rubberized asphalt, playground surfaces, mats and other recycled-rubber products, but the collection and processing infrastructure still has to keep up with the

Pirelli is reportedly planning a major expansion of its tire manufacturing operations in Georgia, with an investment of around US$1.2 billion.

The expansion is expected to put a strong focus on premium tires and more advanced manufacturing technology.

It’s interesting to see another major tire manufacturer putting this much money into North American production rather than relying entirely on overseas manufacturing.

With supply chains, tariffs and transportation costs becoming increasingly important to the tire industry, producing tires closer to where they're sold could become a much bigger advantage.

Bridgestone recently introduced the VHS3, a tire designed for demanding commercial applications such as mobile cranes.

The company says the new tire can provide around 12% better wear life compared with the previous design.

This obviously isn't something most passenger-car drivers are going to buy, but developments like this are interesting because commercial tires operate under some pretty extreme conditions.

High loads, long operating hours and expensive downtime mean tire lifespan becomes extremely important.

A 10–12% increase in usable tire life can represent a substantial amount of money when you're managing an entire fleet.

For anyone starting their winter tire shopping, Michelin's Canadian winter promotion is underway.

From September 21 to December 18, 2026, eligible purchases of four Michelin passenger or light-truck tires can qualify for a $100 prepaid Mastercard, subject to the promotion's eligibility requirements.

We're getting into the period where Canadian winter tire promotions really start ramping up.

For anyone in Quebec especially, this is usually where the debate begins:

Buy early and make sure you get the exact tire/size you want...

or wait and see if a better promotion comes along later in October or November.

Personally, availability is something people sometimes underestimate. Cert

Tires are starting to become a lot smarter than simply having a TPMS sensor tell you when the pressure is low.

Pirelli has been developing its Cyber Tyre technology, which uses sensors inside the tire to gather information such as tire condition, grip and potentially road-surface conditions.

The interesting part is that this information could eventually go beyond the vehicle itself.

In theory, connected tires could help identify slippery roads, low-grip areas or other changing road conditions and share that information with vehicles or road infrastructure.

For Canadian driving, especially with snow, ice and rapidly changing winter conditions, there could be some pretty interesting ap

Car and Driver recently tested five major all-weather tires in dry, wet and snow conditions, and the results were pretty interesting:

🥇 Pirelli Cinturato WeatherActive
🥈 Michelin CrossClimate2
🥉 Bridgestone WeatherPeak
4️⃣ Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady
5️⃣ Nokian Remedy WRG5

The interesting part is that there wasn't really one tire dominating every condition.

The Pirelli won overall thanks largely to excellent dry performance and strong wet/snow results.

The Michelin CrossClimate2 dominated the wet testing and finished a very close second overall.

Meanwhile, the Bridgestone WeatherPeak had the best snow performance, including the quickest accelerati

Toyo has announced the Proxes G-Tour, an all-new grand-touring all-season tire aimed at passenger cars, crossovers and SUVs.

What's interesting is that Toyo is specifically positioning it for gas, hybrid AND electric vehicles, with an emphasis on: Low rolling resistance, Reduced road noise, Ride comfort, Wet and dry traction, Light-snow capability, Improved fuel economy/range

The tire uses an asymmetrical tread and a five-variable pitch pattern designed to reduce tread noise, while beveled tread blocks are supposed to improve water evacuation and road contact.

It seems like we're seeing more tire companies focus less on outright performance and more on **quietness + efficiency + c

Canada has officially opened an investigation into truck and bus tires imported from China, looking at whether they're being dumped into the Canadian market at unfairly low prices or benefiting from subsidies.

The investigation covers a pretty wide range of commercial tires, including 17.5", 19.5", 22.5" and 24.5" sizes, and even includes certain new and retreaded tires whether or not they're imported already mounted on wheels.

The complaint came from the Canadian Retread Manufacturers Association and Michelin North America (Canada).

The CBSA expects to make its preliminary decision by November 30, 2026, and provisional duties could potentially follow.
