X pole Tightening Question

Hello beautiful people!

I just moved into a new rental and want to put up my pressure mounted pole.

At my last rental I had it too tight and cracked the ceiling and left a ring intent in the roof. It was hard to tell when it was tight enough. I’d turn it just enough that I could let go of it without it falling then a couple more turns. I’d do the pull/ push test and felt maybe a tiny bit of movement? Or just pole flexing? I wasn’t sure if it was tight enough so I turned it more however the amount of movement felt the same.

Sure enough it was too tight. I want to put it up in this house but I have no idea how many turns is enough. I saw one video of a lady saying to turn it as much as you can with just your thumb and pointer finger, then two full turns with one hand.

I have a powder coated 40mm pole.

How do I know?
