Is rescuing naps creating a bad habit? Or do they naturally learn?

Sleep

Hey everyone! First time dad to a beautiful 4.5 month old baby girl! I have heard so much conflicting info on the below from either family or coworkers and just wanted to see what everyone’s experience is with the below!

My baby was consistently seeking 3 to 4 hours in naps a day and about 10 to 11 hours at night. We transitioned her to crib for naps and overnight sleep. Now her naps are only 31 to 40 mins if we’re lucky. Overnight sleep is still somewhat okay but we’re worried it’s going to be impacted. We are assuming this is in part due to the 4 month regression. Here’s what I’m wondering…should we be rescuing her naps when she wakes up or will this create a bad habit? Like will she learn to connect sleep cycles on her own and extend naps herself naturally or is this something we teach them how to do by rescuing the nap and putting them back down? Me and my wife are just so confused because we don’t want to create a bad habit but we also want her to get the rest she needs! Any advice or experience on naps/overnight sleep for this is much appreciated!
