**Bonus points if coach is extra abrasive because “nobody cares about your feelings as a member of \[MINORITY GROUP\]”**

I grew up watching Remember the Titans with my dad. We weren’t a family of athletes, but we were pretty active. I’ll never forget that every time we watched a sports movie, for the next month or so my dad would try to wake us up at the crack of stupid to go exercise with him, and he’d quote the movie and laugh. I rewatched the movie recently after Panettiere’s passing and it really got me in my feelings. I miss you dad 🖤

1. Denzel Washington as Coach Boone in Remember the Titans. Stellar performance. I still quote the drills.

2. Samuel L Jackson as Coach Carter. Much grittier than RTT, it’s almost like a mirror image or oracle to the future of what the titans were fighting for during desegregation. All that work fighting for equality, just to end up in a society that treats you and your cities like vermin.

3. Will smith as King Richard. This one is less obvious, because Smith plays Richard as nice, polite, jovial, and fatherly. But in addition to being all of those things, Richard also made some questionable choices about how to treat people around him.

Who else fits this trope? Any women portrayed this way? What about other minorities?

Coach is a complete and utter jerk because how else will the characters grow?
