Travelling across the globe with whippet (2+YO)

Hello everyone,

My husband and I are planning a long distance move (20hr flight) in the not so distant future and im particularly anxious in planning around travelling with our whippet for the first time.

background info:

-she’s regularly taken with us to work 1+ hr car ride each way - she doesn’t like the car as she gets carsick sometimes but shes learning to lay down and sleep and it helps a lot

- when we don’t bring her to work, she is used to being at home in a crate anywhere from 6-14hrs (very rarely that long unless it’s an emergency)

- she sleeps overnight in a crate and is very happy and comfortable

- she’s the best behaved girl and sleeps around 20hrs per day especially if we get a good 4-5km walk in

info for the flight:

-it’s a 21-22hr trip by plane and unfortunately, all dogs are required to be held in cargo regardless of size

-we are planning a stopover where if it’s longer than 3hrs the staff will take your dog out for a bathroom pee break, feed them and clean their crate before the next flight

-once arrived, this country has a 7 day mandated quarantine where if an agency is hired, their staff allows video check ins with your dog. There is unfortunately no way around this

why I’m worried:

- she’s a whippet which automatically makes her sensitive, she’s actually on the extra shy side and it’s taken her about 6 months to really warm up to us and she’s extremely attached to me

- we’re getting her used to being out in all different settings and I’m also crating her at work when I can’t engage with her so she gets used to being in unfamiliar areas

- like a whippet she does have a sensitive/nervous stomach so if she’s stressed she’s not feeling well

does anyone have any stories about taking their whippet across the globe ? How did they handle it? should I ask our vet about anti anxiety meds for the flight? I was thinking to take her on an extra long walk before the flight so that she can just sleep

thanks in advance for your responses
