Not really the consoles' fault. I don't see any killer games out as console exclusives.
Exactly. I can't really think of any exclusive games that are a must have ( if you have said console).
He says that Irrational is closing due to low sales, but the article he links to cites a completely different reason.
I've removed this because it's editorial, not news.
This seems like nothing but a flamebait article. It's cherry picking sales data from one specific month and using it to extrapolate the health of an entire ecosystem? Like somehow the PS4 & XB1 are in trouble because 8 years ago the NDS & Wii were on a hot streak?
Even though the XB1 is behind the PS4, they're both still the fastest selling consoles ever. When Sony made their sales estimate back in fall, people thought they were joking and there'd be know way that they could even produce as many consoles as they claimed they could sell, and yet they hit that sales goal.
Worse than what? The PC? Consoles have always been worse than PCs. That's not why people buy consoles. Both the PS4 and XB1 are more powerful and better than any other consoles already out there, and isn't that what this entire article is about? The "console market" being in "crisis"?
The high end enthusiasts have always been on the PC. The casuals had a fling with the wii, but were never much for consoles in the first place. Yes, mobile is growing, but there's no indication that it's happening at the expense of the console market. Mobile is expanding the market to a new audience.
It seems clear to me that whoever wrote this article has no idea how the console market works, how to understand the numbers, or even what a target audience is. It's throwing around numbers without understanding what they mean or how they apply, reaching conclusions that are completely unfounded.
Yeah isn't it a little early to be calling it a crisis? It's been what, 4-5 months? Not only that but one has to keep in mind that the Wii and DS were the first of their kind, so yeah of course they sold tremendously at first.
