What would you rate Smite out of 10?

DISCUSSION

I'd like to hear people's personal opinions on Smite. I understand that this being the official Smite subreddit will cause a gigantic bias around the subject but i'd like to know what you all would rate the game itself if it were to be released today.

I've been asking around and even doing my own experiments to actually see what the game would be rated by others. I've even gone as far as to ask my personal friends what they thought of the game after introducing it to them.

In my personal opinion i'd rate the game a 6.5/10 but that i'd like to hear everyone else's take on the subject.

I wouldn't give it a score (even after release), as a score would not properly reflect the game's continuously changing nature.

welcome to every game.

Like Dota 2 or LoL?

Or diablo 3?

or every major AAA that wasn't published by EA

$60 AAA games rarely are given free updates in order to improve gameplay (aside from potential bug fixes).

Exactly, and yet they all have been reviewed and rated is all I am pointing out.

I'd rate it around 8 or 9 because it's quite fun. I don't have these "server problems" or "shitty matchmaking" like a lot of the community supposedly has. I rarely witness any bugs that break the game either. It could use a few touchups and a few tweaks but otherwise it's quite sound.

I agree completely. I rarely have server problems and when there is a ping spike or something along those lines it has always been because my brother has started to wirelessly stream and/or download stuff at that moment. Same with my friend, he acknowledges that his internet is bot the best and there have been many instances where he freezes and starts AA'ing the wall and then DC's but does he ever blame it on HiRez's servers? No. Because it is not their fault. Maybe, just maybe, people should analyze why they DC'd and try to find a problem in their end of the spectrum instead of jumping on the online bandwagon and blame it on the developers.

Same with the matchmaking argument. I rarely have poor matches. What I now believe people mean by "OMG matchmking SUX" is "I can't handle losing and admitting that I was outplayed so I am going to blame it on matchmaking. Guys and girls, bot everyone can have a 100% w/l ratio.

I'll also add one more point to a complaint people generally have on this sub-reddit: optimization. Technology changes everyday and everyday video games become more advanced and need more computing power. This means that your 2005 laptop that was labeled "For Gaming" at the time will no lobger get you satisfying frame rates anymore. Hell, even my $2000 custom PC I built earlier this year will become obsolete in the next 5 years (maybe even sooner). Where I am going with this is: this game shouldn't be developed around your machine's computing power. HiRez wants their games to be as advances as possible (without needing a super-computer to run) so you will need a fairly modern and decent PC to run the game well. Oh, your specs barely surpass the minimum requirements? That's great! Except that doesn't mean you are going to cap the game at 150FPS at maximum settings.

I'm not saying that it is ALWAYS the users fault that these problems occur but many people on this sub-reddit have to realize that it is not ALWAYS the developers fault.

So true, any lag I get is usually my own connection. I'm not entirely sure where my comp stands in the realm of good or bad but I do know it's much lower (in the gpu department atleast) than most who try to run this game and have problems. On another note: I hope that your comp lasts closer to 15 years because with that kind of money, and that you built it yourself it's cheaper and better than if you bought it prebuilt I'm sure.

2
Shubunkus•

It is much better than pre-built computers but I understand the way technology and progresses and in 15 years my computer will be the somewhat the equivalent of a N64 or PS1/2 nowadays.

1
FoxinthevoidUSA USA USA USA•

Perhaps, even then all you might have to do is up the gpu and bam it's top notch again.

1
SaintJason•

A 9 seems too far even if you rule out the server issues and under optimisation and matchmaking.

Don't be liberal with the score.

1
FoxinthevoidUSA USA USA USA•

I've never experienced the server issues or matchmaking problems personally.

I'd say 8. the game is wonderful, but we need balancing and more items/item reworks to make it a 10.

For the Casual gamer I would say (8.5/10). Great game, Lot of fun!

For the Competitive Gamer in me I would say (4.5/10). Still a great game, Lots of fun, but... The League system is very poor compared to other MOBAs and MMR being reset every month makes MM a true nightmare. Most players don't start to show their true MMR till around 100 games. By the time players get 100 games in League their MMR is reset causing them to Loose or gain anywhere from 500-1k MMR. This reset means the system will never be able to properly match players on teams for games in League or Ranked play.

somisinformed•

As a casual it was great from levels 0-20. From 20-30 it was a nightmare. I was absolutely in love with the game early on. Played about 400 games in 2 months, bought 3x$50 gem packs and a god pack for myself and my best friend. Then as I approached level 30, the matchmaking just seemed to get worse and worse. Both ways - it was either I would get destroyed or we would destroy the other team. Constantly players going 0-20 and 20-2. I haven't played in 2 weeks, and patiently await a larger player base with better matching after launch.

Right now I would make it a 7.9/10 Hopefully I will give Smite a better score after release.

As a moba, 10/10, why? It's the only moba that didn't bore me after few hours.

I don't care about matchmaking, I always have fun playing with people from this community, even if we loose badly, and that's what matters for me the most, to have fun.

I don't have the server problems that most of people apparently have (I can even play from Europe on US servers with 50 pings), from like 3 last patches I never had problems on Smite side.

Optimization was huge problem for me, but from 2 last patches i gained 30 extra fps and game is very smooth for me now.

I don't play ranked nor do I care about competitive scene so take that into account.

As a game overall... I don't know, it's hard to say, but I would give it something around 8/10.

7 due to shitty balancing and ridiculous ideas that periodically get implemented due to 'beta'.

I don't like the hole HiRez dug themselves into inregards to globals/CC/CC immunity getting out of control.

2
jmeredith06Ludicrous speed!•

I'd give it a solid 7 or low 8 personally. This is due to just a few things.

  1. I cannot stand leavers in this game and there being no system to help with it (reporting isn't really a fix..) It's not so much the leaver as the time it wastes me to find another game. I'd rather someone be able to fill in for the leaver.

  2. Matchmaking, but I have faith they will "fix" this soon (I hope...)

  3. Server issues. Hasn't been a problem normally until this last patch, but I'm getting crazy spikes in FPS and Ping randomly (it's not my ISP, checked that out and no troubles nor has anything changed).

Other than that I enjoy the game, just get frustrated at stupid fixable things that are taking forever to get fixed.

I'd give it an NA because it isn't finished.

You can't grade an unfinished project.

StygianSerpentMINE IS THE LAST FACE YOU'LL SEE•

I'd rate this game 8/10. Because HiRez is very interested in SMITE, brings new features, new gods, pays close attention to feedbacks, listens to what community say. Also, SMITE itself is a cool and almost only form of MOBA genre that truly supports third-person view, which makes SMITE totally playable. This is one of the reasons why I decided SMITE instead of LoL, the camera view. The quality of shaders, arts, maps, gods bring SMITE to a higher level dimension. Existence of different game modes is another magnificience. Overall, 8/10, I enjoy playing this.

1
WikedJack•

I agree, I love playing the game and find it quite a bit for fun than LoL just because it's more fast paced and almost forces you to pay attention to every detail. The art is just stunning in some cases, mostly referring to the assault map, and I love the mythology basis that it is working with. There are some bugs that need to be fixed most definitely, maybe some optimization, and a fix to the matchmaking system would be great things to have happen before release. I don't have to many lag issues and I run on max settings. So for me 8/10 as well.

3
Spetenesold ult plz•

In closed beta would give this game pure 8/10 cuz of sume bugs, and the gameplay was so nice, especially the map was awesome. But now this game is like 4.5/10 because of matchmaking, some stupid changes. Smite changed from original concept to just a moba with 3rd person view, just wen't back to LoL, and it's more enjoyable than Smite in it's current state.

MaZt12DON'T TOUCH MY COOKIES•

Right now a 7,5/10. Matchmaking and server problems along with major bugs like 540m deserter hold it back for me.

1
Hockdude15•

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that bug simply require a restart of the client and it goes away?

1
SaintJason•

Still it shouldn't be accepted. It's a bad bug.

1
Linzel5OPHere's Johnny•

Correct me if I'm wrong but it is still a bug right?

1
Hockdude15•

Haha it wasn't meant in an offensive manner, more so just trying to inform people that they don't have to sit through the entire 540mins. But yes it is still a bug.

Gameplay 8, Matchmaking 0, Community 7, Balances/Updates 5 , Creativity 9 so i'd rate it as a 5/10.

1
Duckman_10•

I don't understand how you got to that final number? Even if you were weighting everything differnetly surely gameplay is the most important feature?

3
CstarfireSkorpan•

Maybe a 6/10.
