Another 'Please Help Me Research' Post (Sorry)
I'm attempting to write a paper on Book II of Vergil's Aeneid as an apocalypse narrative. I'm struggling to figure out what I actually mean by that and finding my thesis. These are my notes:
Book II as apocalypse.
- What does apocalypse mean.
- Mention then sever apocalypse from Biblical connotation.
- Roman tradition of doomy prophecies, Etruscan heritage (Maecenas) of prophecy sibyllines/palladium.
- What historical context. Clarify references to context (headless body on a beach, leadership dead, Pyrrhus goes batshit, etc.)
- What is the divine plan.
- How is the divine plan articulated.
This paper is only supposed to be 12 pages, and I'm extremely concerned that my topic is too broad or too obvious (like my worst fear is to actually track down a better version of my paper in l'annee philologique or something). What do I do if I actually track down a better version of my paper? Do I give up?
Also, can anyone help me with databases that are more helpful than l'Annee philologique (overbroad, half the stuff is impossible to track down, haaaaate only getting a short little nothing of an abstract at best) or JSTOR?
I know this is a lot but I always struggle with term papers. I've never written one that didn't devolve into over-researched madness.
I've got 10 years of Latin behind me so I want to engage the primary source (I've translated this book before), but this is not for a classics course, it's for a literature course. My preferred translator is Robert Fitzgerald, if that matters. For commentary I'm working off of Pharr and Randall Ganiban.
Thank you in advance.
Edit: Book II is when Aeneas recounts to Dido and her court the story of the destruction of Troy.
Edit 2: Oh, and how do I cite a 'hat tip'? When one of my Latin professors was introducing Book II to us, he mentioned the idea of apocalypse. I want to 'hat tip' him for giving me the idea in the first place.

I should have mentioned that this is classics-specific, I think. I apologize for not mentioning that in the title. I just have absolutely no idea where I'm going with this paper. Recommendations of other subreddits that would be more suitable are absolutely welcome.
