Costume drama is a huge segment of what Netflix is currently offering, so today I’d like to talk about Versailles. The second season was just added, so now’s a great time to watch it.

Versailles stars George Blagden (Athelstan from Vikings) as Louis XIV. It begins when Louis is in his twenties and trying to regain control over the local nobility who really ran wild while the country was ruled by a regent. It’s entirely set in the Versailles palace, and we gradually see the transition from hunting lodge to the legendary palace we all know today.

What makes this series stand out from every other costume drama Netflix is currently offering is the use of the actual Versailles palace. Wherever

I ask this both because I don't fully understand why the revolutionaries latch onto Lamarque and because Hugo himself only mentions his exploits during the Napoleonic era, which would have been 17 years before. What had he done in the interim to make him such a leftist hero?

So, I keep on remembering this one specific bit from a TV show that aired when I was very young (almost certainly on Nickelodeon). Anywhere from like 1992-97.

The parts I remember: they would cut away from the show for a bit, saying something like "and now for the adventures of uptown eddie and downtown steve!" [names are probs wrong, phrasing probs wrong too]. It was a short sketch with puppets or marionette dolls who lived on other sides of a tiny puppet city, and they would tell dumb jokes about it. I think they had a cliche saxophone bit too.

I think it was a live-action sketch show, but I'm pretty sure I was too young to be able to watch Roundhouse (Nick's live-action sketch show). An

I'm working on drafting a pretty large pattern, probably around 1.2'x1'. It's a fairly detailed work, the international crest of a Greek fraternity. The details really need to be backstitched to 'pop.'

I always hand-draft my patterns. Even when I order someone else's patterns, I need to hand-draft it to understand it. It's something to do with optical migraines, which the flurry of black and white symbols provokes. So using software is really not an option.

I'm not asking someone to turn an image into a pattern, but how do you decide where to add backstitch to your own patterns? Is it mostly educated guesses?

My only idea aside from just guessing at it (which will probably put me drafting

Hi r/Catholicism,

You probably get many questions from those about to enter RCIA, and I apologize for creating yet another. I thought about asking this to r/Christianity, but decided to ask here. I can imagine that Baptists, the Orthodox, agnostics, etc. might have different views as to what I mean.

I have come back to Christianity primarily through the figure of Christ (and to a lesser extent, the Virgin Mary). Most of my meditative prayers relate to either Christ or the Virgin. I find it much easier to read the New Testament than the Old.

I'm concerned that I might be focusing too much on Christ and totally ignoring God the Father and the Holy Spirit (I know that they're all the ~~t

It seems like a lot of people have a standard look that they're most comfortable in, and that can often mean loyalty to certain colors over others. I most often wear greyed taupe, and can also wear forest greens and rose-gold, but I am instantly uncomfortable in brighter purples and any kind of blues.

On my lips I rarely stray away from rose pink, when I do, I'm so intensely aware of my lipstick - which is good in a way, since I'm constantly checking on my lipstick. But it also makes sure that I only break out my reds/corals/purples on special occasions.

What about y'all?

For the past year or so, I've been using La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen (active ingredients zinc oxide and titanium dioxide). Recently I've been getting massive issues with the sunscreen making my acanya… just pill off my face. It's horrible. Acanya is a mix of benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin, it's really prone to pilling off. I've tried layering it under, over, using different products to lock in the acanya, and letting the sunscreen soak in, nothing works. I'm suspecting this is because it's a physical sunscreen and so it just won't sink in.

Can someone recommend me a different facial sunscreen? Especially if you're also on acanya. I think I need a very gentle chemica

I'm attempting to write a paper on Book II of Vergil's Aeneid as an apocalypse narrative. I'm struggling to figure out what I actually mean by that and finding my thesis. These are my notes:

Book II as apocalypse.

  • What does apocalypse mean.
  • Mention then sever apocalypse from Biblical connotation.
  • Roman tradition of doomy prophecies, Etruscan heritage (Maecenas) of prophecy sibyllines/palladium.
  • What historical context. Clarify references to context (headless body on a beach, leadership dead, Pyrrhus goes batshit, etc.)
  • What is the divine plan.
  • How is the divine plan articulated.

This paper is only supposed to be 12 pages, and I'm extremely concerned that my topic is too bro
