So as the title says my newly put together computer seems to work fine at first glance (been using it all evening installing drivers and trying out some games), but I get a CPU fan error when booting (after which I have to press F1).

For now I have disabled CPU fan monitoring. My CPU temp. seems to be fine hovering around 40º C / 104 ºF when I am in BIOS.

The Phanteks ph-tc14pe comes with two 4-PIN 140mm fans. I connected the first to the 4 pin CPU FAN connector on my motherboard and the the second one to the CPU OPT connector. Initially I connected both to the CPU fan connector using the supplied Y-splitter (see left side of this picture): http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/content/5/1/5167_22_needs_edited_images_phanteks_ph_tc12dx_tower_cpu_cooler_review.jpg

My heatsink is setup like this (air flowing from right to left, straight into exhaust fan on the back of the R4 case): http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/pr/6/1/6169_06_phanteks_introduces_ph_tc14pe_premier_cpu_cooler.jpg

After some googling I found out that my motherboard has a minimum RPM limit (probably around 600 rpm), which is causing the CPU fan error. I also found out that this RPM is rather low (other models hover around 800-1100 rpm).

Any ideas as to what may be the problem here? Should I be worried about this low RPM? Is there any way to increase RPM?

I would rather up the RPM, than disable the monitoring in BIOS.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

It could be the mainboards fault misssinterpreting the speed of the , firstly i thought you could ahave a fan failure or something but then i realised that you have the exact same mainboard as i have ( i had the same problem) . Firstly you dont have to run mo0ntioring of , somewhere in the bios is an option to set the limit down (advanced settings, some tab i dont remeber, and then scroll all the way down) set it to 300 or something. As to if the fan is really turning that slow, just start ai suite 3 if you have it installed already (if not install it now) and check wich speed is showed there if its still around 500 start the fan optimisation and that should solve that for you and bring the fan to normal speeds.

I did what you said and everything works perfectly now! Thanks again, much appreciated.
