PSA for Aspiring Bank Ball Traders & Collectors!

Info

[info] Hey all, I've got a little PSA for the aspiring or beginning Bank Ball traders, breeders, and collectors! If you already know this, then you rock! If you didn't know some of this information, that's perfectly okay because that's what this was for! :)

I've seen a lot of people trying to trade for certain Pokemon on r/pokemontrades, but not get many responses so I thought I'd try and help some people out with some information.

######.

  • People looking for Move Tutor Moves on Pokemon:

Yo! Champ in making! Yeah you! I know there are some Pokemon out there that become pretty awesome after a Move Tutor Move: Pixelate Hyper Voice Sylveon, Pain Split Rotom, Giga Drain Volcarona, Knock Off this, Ice Punch that, the list goes on and on!

(ง ͠° ͟ل͜ ͡°)ง ^elemental ^punches! ^pow ^pow!

I've seen some people looking just for that move so they can breed their own, but here is the kicker: Unfortunately, MOST Move Tutors cannot be bred/passed down onto the offspring*. Here is a tip for those of you: If you want one for Competitive purposes, you will want to find someone who can RNG one for you!

As many people have noted, there are SOME Move Tutor moves that can be passed down (if they are Egg Moves in Gen 6), but listing them all down on this info post would go way past the text limit, oh my! You can check Serebii or Bulbapedia for those specific Move Tutor Moves! :)

Q: How can I obtain Pokémon on X and Y with tutor only moves?

A: Unfortunately tutor moves are all from previous generations and require a bit of work to obtain or trade for. Tutor moves, unlike egg moves, do not pass down while breeding. Obtaining a competitive-level Pokémon with tutor moves will require knowledge of RNG abuse, access to Bank and to Black/White and Black 2/White 2 (or even earlier games). Keep in mind that many people offering such Pokémon may be looking for a lot in return. A list of all tutor moves can be found on Bulbapedia.

(The Q&A above is taken from straight from the Wiki! Check it out if you haven't already, lots of useful information.) For more information on RNG check out r/pokemonrng!

  • The sections below are for aspiring Bank Ball Collectors/Traders! ヽ( ͝° ͜ʖ͡°)ノ

Bank Balls are considered Pokeballs from previous generations that require transferring up to XY. The term is pretty loose, but generally they refer to these three categories below.

  • 1. Apricorn Balls:

In order they are: Fast, Friend, Heavy, Level, Love, Lure, Moon

POKEMON IN APRICORN BALLS CANNOT LEGALLY HAVE THEIR HIDDEN ABILITIES. This is due to Dream World being released AFTER HG/SS. (If you see an Apricorn Ball Pokemon with HA, it is hacked/illegal regardless of being bred legitimately in Kalos, etc.)

  • 2. Other Bank Balls:

In order they are: Dream, Safari, Sport

The only Bank Ball Pokemon that can have their HA is when they're in a , but there ARE some exceptions.

Certain Dream Ball Pokemon (some examples are Kecleon, Minun, Plusle) cannot have their Hidden Ability and be in Dream Balls due to their HA being released in Gen 6! (again, unless they are hacked.)

There are fewer Pokemon because those are the ones that must be caught in the Bug Catching Contest in Heart Gold/Soul Silver.

  • 3. Special Cases w/ Regular Pokeballs:

I won't list the names out for these since we should be quite familiar with them, haha. Now there are certain cases where these Pokeballs become "bank balls". One of these examples is Fossil Pokemon.

In the Dream World, you could catch Pokemon in a ball other than a . These include Fossil Pokemon like Aerodactyl, Kabuto, Omanyte, Anorith, Lileep, Cranidos, Shieldon, and Tirtouga! So if you see people trading for these, they are possible. \O/ Note: Tyrunt and Amaura (Gen 6 Fossils) can only be in as of now. :(

Here are some honorable mentions/examples of other Pokemon: HA Feebas, HA Karrablast, HA Shelmet, HA Burmy, HA Carvanha, HA Wailmer, HA Goldeen, HA Elgyem, and HA Rattata.... to list a few! Click here for a list made below in the comments by u/ReversedenO and u/richi3f!

###Regarding Starters: (I often see LF threads for these)

  • Gen 1 (Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur), Gen 3 Starters (Torchic, Mudkip, Treecko), Gen 4 (Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup) cannot be bred in a Dream Ball despite it being noted so on the list! These starters were released as Male in the Japanese Global Link Event so they cannot be bred in legally (if you see them as breedables, they are hacked/illegal, the only legit ones are the actual Event Males from the particular Global Link events).
  • The Hidden Abilities for Gen 2 (Cyndaquil, Totodile, Chikorita) and Gen 5 (Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott) Starters have NOT been released! (Sorry people, no Contrary Serperior or Sheer Force Feraligatr yet. Again, more sadness ;__;. You can only get them through hacking.)
  • The only Ball you can get Gen 3, Gen 4, Gen 5 starters in are unless you have the original male from the JPN Global Link Event (in regards to Gen 3, 4).
  • With Gen 2 Starters you can get them in different Ball types due to the Colosseum games. However, they cannot be in Apricorn balls.
  • Of course, with the introduction of the Gen 6 Friend Safari, Gen 1 and Gen 6 Starters CAN be in something other than (just not in a Bank Ball).

Lastly, some Tips for Beginning Breeders & Bank Ball Collectors:

  • If you want a specific ball to pass on to the offspring, you must breed with a female Pokemon that is already in that ball.
  • Important! If you are trying to breed for a Hidden Ability AND pass on the Ball, that female Pokemon must have the HA to begin with!
  • If you are breeding for Hidden Abilities in general, a Male (with HA) + a Female (without HA) will NOT result in Offspring with HA. Breeding HA from Male Pokemon ONLY works with Ditto! (you will not be able to pass on the Ball with this method since this only works with Females.) Click here for a quick explanation!
  • Sadly, Cherish Ball and Master Ball will not pass on to the offspring! ;_;
  • When checking Bank Ball legality, keep in mind that there are some Pokemon that only show up when the Hoenn/Sinnoh Sound Radio Program is used in HG/SS!
  • Double-check with u/alyksandr's Spreadsheet for Pokeball & Hidden Ability Legality. This is currently the most up-to-date and accurate one I could find.
  • The Ball on the Pokemon is purely aesthetic except in the case of the Luxury Ball. Using increases your Pokemon's friendship quicker, making it easier to maximize friendship, evolve baby Pokemon, and use moves like Return more effectively!
