Oh man...sweet purchase! The build quality on these looks fantastic and I've been wanting one myself, but I just can't get over the price. At $200? Maybe. At $150? Definitely. At $300? Fuck that.
I'm still jealous though. :)

300 is better than what I've seen it go for from trading sites and groups. So I can't really complain.

300 isn't that bad considering the build quality.
It's a DNA30. The cheapest of those (Hana), with low build quality and sporadic after-sales support, start at $200. Higher-end DNA devices start around $300 like the ZNA at $299, Mark Bugs Wizard Apprentice Evolved II at $325 and the Al Mood at $300.

The chip itself is $50. Devices like the Vapor Shark DNA are $170, and the rDNA $190. The Protovapor XPV is also at $190. Radix V1 is $200.
Just a couple examples. For the more technically inclined among us, an authentic DNA30D chip from Evolv ($50), the FastTech Cana box DIY kit ($20), and a little time and perhaps extras like the FDV 510 ($10) and you've got yourself an authentic DNA 30 device for $70-80, or about what the current revision of the Cloupor Cana costs.

The VaporSharks have good, not great build quality. Also assembled in China. Very simply creation. Vapor Flask (and the other high end regulated mods) is a different level. The Radix definitely uses a pre-made box (looks like a Hammond) with their owns slots and holes cut out. The Protovapor may be the same.
Yes, you can make it cheaper yourself. That's going to be the case with all regulated mods and things like eliquid.

I don't think "assembled in China" is a very good argument against quality. Every iPhone is assembled in China too. The quality is as good as you want to pay for.
Beyond that though, I can agree that the VS DNAs are good but not great build quality (though reasonable for their market segment). The Radix box is, like the Hana and the Vapor Flask, milled from billet aluminum though. Definitely not a Hammond box (though the magnets in the corners make it seem like it could be at first glance). The XPV is custom as well.
If we're comparing directly to, say, the Radix box knowing it's custom milled billet aluminum, where would I find the extra quality that justifies a 50% premium for the VF? Ignoring of course non-quality related or subjective things like the shape/formfactor or battery capacity.

I got mine in Monday along with a pair of Samsung batteries. Samsung batteries are 1mm too thick to fit in the Vapor Flask.
If you're looking to pick up a Vapor Flask V2 pick up Sony VTC3/4/5, the LGs, or take a risk on the Xtar VTC4 as I've done. I'll have those in today...

I hear I can get mine upgraded to v2 but I don't know if that is true or not.

I don't think it is. I wouldn't worry about it, though. The V1 has two VTC5s (or VTC4s?) built in, so you won't be getting much of a benefit from getting it upgraded.

While vaping on my Hana clone last night, I thought that it would be a pretty cool idea if they put the LED on top of the box so that you could see the volts and the cut-off while vaping.
More box mods should put the LED on top.
