What's new in Emacs 24.4?

I've been using Emacs for a maybe a year now, but just reading the changelog for 24.4 makes me realize just how incredibly huge the feature set is again.
I know nothing.
People using it for 20 years still discover stuff.
I count myself among them.
When I find myself needing to explain the reason I use Emacs, one of the biggest reasons is that it's a tool that very effectively rewards the investment you make into learning how to use it. There's a high probability that the investment you make now will pay off in the longer-term. This is part of the reason why.
The best thing about this release imo? The BEST thing? We're moving to git straight after it.
One minor annoyance for us scroll bar haters: there is now a horizontal-scroll-bar-mode to disable
Ahh. This gets posted right as I'm about to launch the new site. D'oh :-)
Hopefully once the DNS changes propagate the transition should be smooth sailing from then on.
Nice site - I hadn't come across it before.
Congratulations though, for having one of the only sites I've encountered where I have to zoom out 2 steps to make the font a usable size. Not designed for my 1366x768 laptop :).
Edit: a gorgeous read on my work 2560x1600 monitor though ;)
I have 1920 x 1080 and the font size is huuuge (29px). I had to zoom you to 67/75% to be able to read it.
Same here.
I've tweaked the font a bit -- more to come this weekend.
Apologies for the inconvenience!
No problem. It's just funny because most often it's the opposite problem - some tiny font because the site is made by someone with a 17" screen with 1024x768 resolution...
ok, the new look is totally epic.
Glad you like it :)
Fonts are a tad big.
Thanks. I'm working to fix this as we speak.
Just a note. I am red/green color blind and I can't tell the links from the normal text.
I'll have a look at this right away!
So what's the difference between CUA-mode and TMM, and why are there two of them?
Both provide a "transient" region that isn't always present. CUA mode also provides the normal keybindings used in other programs, C-c to copy and C-v to paste, for example. TMM uses Emacs keybindings.
This has been posted 9 months ago, but given the imminent release of 24.4, I thought it would be useful to see once again.
I plan on revising the list with any new additions since then.
Thanks for putting these out, along with the rest of the site. I find them invaluable, and I'm sure I'm one of many.
Thank you :)
Emacs 24.4 developing team stopped adding new features over 9 months ago, just bugs need to be fixed, if a new list needs to be made, I believe nothing will change,
