Master Chainlink

Question

I'm trying to replace my old chain with a new one and it came with a master chain link. I have had a lot of difficulty with these in the past, Does anyone have any tricks to putting them on?

the real trick is not to use it

Use a screwdriver to tap the security plate over the pin.

Masterlinks are always stronger than a reassembled link of chain, at least on a nice enough chain to where the pins are peened on the outside to hold them in place.

The only chain I use the master link on is a super toughness, and only because it's a screw/nut rather than a clip. I don't trust them especially on a fixed drivetrain.

yeah scrap em, I don't trust them on a fixed gear

For what reason do people not trust them? Its difficult to remove them with the correct tools.

I think having a lock on the outside of the link is safer than the press locking mechanism for every other link.

I would imagine breaking a chain more than once is more dangerous than a masterlink.

I've always used master links and never dropped a chain in 4 years.

EDIT: not trying to argue, I am curious and I know this post is a day old.

What do you recommend on a fixed gear?

They're saying just remove the master link and use a chain tool to take the chain on and off. Get a chain breaker, look up a tutorial, and give it a go.
