Anybody have any snazzy tips on protecting your bike in the winter from salt?

I'm trying to replace my old chain with a new one and it came with a master chain link. I have had a lot of difficulty with these in the past, Does anyone have any tricks to putting them on?

I'm thinking of getting one off CityGrounds. Does anyone have thoughts?
