Question regarding Spell Storing weapons.

So I'm at a bit of an impasse here, is it possible to store something like an Empowered Scorching Ray (normally a level 4 spell) if I use a Metamagic Rod or Spell Perfection since it specifically states that neither of these alter the spell level, so you're still technically casting a level 2 spell? I'm not sure if I'm misreading, but it seems like this is possible, and of course it'd lend itself to crazier things like a Magus with Magical Lineage being able to store an Intensified (prepared), Empowered (prepared), Piercing (rod), Maximized (Spell Perfection) Shocking Grasp and it'd only be a level 3 spell.

Am I reading something wrong here? Or am I right?

By RAW, it looks like it's fine. As long as the targeted spell uses up a 3rd level or lower spell slot, after all modifiers, it can be stored in a Weapon of Spell Storing.

Yeah this is what makes sense to me, but I'm hearing arguments against it, but I can't find the arguments against them in the RAW... >_>

The way I would rule is that your feats and abilities that discount metamagic effects don't count when storing an effect in a spell storing weapon. It's a power limitation of the item; your abilities don't help.

Same ruling for why, say, you have to pay extra for a metamagic version of a wand, even if you can decrease the metamagic level modifier to +0 with your feats. Magic item restrictions don't care about your feats and modified abilities like that.

Note that RAW is silent on this as far as I'm aware, and I haven't seen any FAQ or developer clarification on the point. That's just how I would rule as a long-time 3.x and Pathfinder GM.

Do you by chance have a link to where the RAW says you have to pay extra for a metamagic'd version of the wand even if the final spell levels comes out at a +0? I'd like to give the RAW a read to see if I can find anything I might've missed.

Thanks for the help! c:
