Key point in the article for me:
"Liverpool's first offer of £70,000 a week was more than double the 20-year-old forward's current salary, and they have now increased that offer significantly.
I'm guessing he's been given a deal to sign for somewhere around GBP 85-90k/w. If he doesn't take that, i'm guessing that he'll be gone before his current contract is up.
He'll sign.
Just agents playing games.
I really do hope so. I don't want him to leave until he retires. As unlikely as that is, i'd be ecstatic if it happened.
Haha - yeah I think that's pretty unlikely but I think if we tie him down we have a good chance of keeping him until he's 25-26. Then why not longer?
We seem to be a moving into a selling club in these recent years, starting with getting rid of Alonso for Gareth fucking Barry.
We can't expect to reach the heights of being dominant in Europe or having a run at the PL (aside from the magic of last year, realistically speaking) if we don't hold onto these players.
Fingers crossed Sterling does sign, I'm sure this sub would leap with excitement. Imagine Ibe, Sterling and Coutinho in our midfield, all 23-25 Woooosh!
Markovic and Can as well. Rossiter coming along in midfield with Hendo as the new Captain Fantastic. Our veteran striker D-Studge is coming off another 30 goal season and we've got our Sakho, Moreno and Flanno teaching young Lloyd Jones what's what. Then we've got quality. We'll have experience in Lallana, Lucas, Skrtel (maybe too old at this point). It's been said time and again but our future is looking good. That's without me even mentioning a big chunk of the youth that could very well make it through. Canos, Chirivella, Kent, Wilson, Ojo, Texeira, McLaughlin (last two looking less likely now), Jones, maybe Ilori and even Wisdom. I think even if a quarter of these lads come through, I'll be very happy because many of them show stunning composure and confidence for their age.
He's not going to leave calm down
70k a week, Luke Shaw is making 100k a week. you guys really think its the agent whos dicking around?
it doesnt matter that the 70 is double his wages if hes being offer 30% less than someone less valuable than he is. im not suggesting he will get that amount, because there are a million different factors that can impact how wages are reported, but shit... what kind of idiot would his agent be not to demand at least that much?
Really good point that - I feel like I've been defending Sterlings' wages alone. The vibe off the internet seems to be that if he wants more we should 'cut out losses.'
People also say that 'we can't pay that kind of money unlike some clubs'
It's like, fuck off. Be realistic - we're not fucking Burnley, we're Liverpool - of course we can afford to pay one of our fundamental players bloody good money. That's football.
he's our best player. he should be making the most.
Pay him what he wants, well within reason I guess. I have a feeling he's a star that will just shine too bright for us, and a bigger club will eventually come knocking and we'll make a big profit off of him.

I don't know. Atletico is an example of doing it another way. Dortmund too. And heck, Saints this year.
Dortmund and Atletico both built their success on inspirational managers who built a team in their own image. Atletico have continued to invest in players like Mandzukic and Griezmann while doing everything in their power to keep their star players, while Dortmund lost player after player, didn't adequately replace them and are now battling relegation.
Southampton are a good model to follow if you're a smaller club with ambitions of breaking into Europe but we shouldn't be emulating them until they've seen consistent success. At the moment their position could be simply a good run of form. Everton were the success story last year, now look at them.
Glen on 110,000...fucking hell!
It's just as often said to be £90k though which is still pretty crazy.
Either way his contract is expiring at the end of this year correct? Will be a good thing to get his wages freed up honestly.
Well if he does stay he'll definitely be on less than that.
Rumour is he's asking for £140,000 a week and the club won't budge... Will be interesting to see how this plays out
140? That's insane, honestly. Bad precedent to set too.
If he wants 100k, give it him.
Title makes it sound like Raheem is saying the offer is incredible...pretty misleading mate
I just pressed the suggest title, BBC's title not mine..
Not a good excuse, at all.
EDIT: Your argument is bad, and you should feel bad.
Don't feel bad, OP. You do you.
