Roasting Yunnan (China) Beans

I've been experimenting with Yunnan coffee beans from various plantations, some big company some small co-ops. Results have been pretty surprising and ultimately will make a great base for some blends I have in mind. Wondering if anyone else on here has had any experience roasting Yunnan coffee?

Nice, would love to hear his results. Do you know which regions?

No idea. He gets weird samples from time to time.

I had som China yunan beans once. Only a lb or so of them. All I really remember is that the amount of chaff they produced seemed like you could stuff a pillow with it. I remember it being good but it was years ago and I was still pretty new to roasting.

These guys have an office in Cali, but for the price I'm not sure it's worth it. I've been sampling from various farms from all over the region (as I live in China) and to be honest they didn't stand out over the bulk (1/4) the price beans from other agents. What they're doing for coffee growers up there though is noble and worth supporting. In time I'm sure they'll have some lovely stuff!

ah nice, i'm based in california. It's too bad the quality doesn't stand out amongst the rest. do you have a roastery in china? would you be interested in selling me some samples from the region? feel free to pm me if you're into it!

We're setting one up right now. I could do a one off shipment for you, not sure how well it'd get through US customs and all that though :\ Your best bet would be to get in touch with the Manlo guys and see what they're up to. While it's not mind blowing stuff, they're going to be a really good representation of Yunnan beans + the ease of access. Really cool reps (at least on this side of the globe) and an organization that is ultimately spear heading a (coffee growing) revolution. I really respect what they're doing and have a lot of faith that in the next few years we'll be able to see some lovely crops coming from their co-ops!
