Potatoes and Onions

I've been thinking about getting a batch of potatoes and onions in the ground soon, maybe start my sweet peas.

I've heard you can plant all these in the fall before winter, could I plant them now and maybe get a crop in before summer? Thoughts?

CSU has a site that is pretty helpful for gardeners in Denver. http://www.colostate.edu/Dept/CoopExt/4DMG/Calendar/gardenin.htm

I believe it says you can start peas in mid-March, but you should double-check it. I don't have much (successful) experience with Onions out here.

I think you could start these now. The weather looks like it's improving enough now. However you never know! I tried potatoes over winter one year and they didn't make it. I think our winter temps are too cold. Onions might be ok over winter though. I always start mine in the spring and store them over the winter inside.

I've found both to be a little delicate about wild temperature fluctuation, but I think it should be stable enough now....but you never know.

Peas and Potatoes by St. Patrick's Day. And pretty much all cool season crops (spinach, lettuce, kale, beets, etc.) will be planted in my beds by the end of the month. Though I use row covers.
