Author is tired of having to use her words. Some bad examples next to trivial ones.

I hope she writes differently than she blogs because I couldn't take a page of that.
Her work is... clumsy... but she's doing better than most bloggers who claim to be authors. Honestly writes like a self-centered 14yo girl who thinks she's particularly smart talks, which fits nicely with her characters.
"I'm a new your times best seller!"
And? So is Tucker Max and he wrote a book that's all fart and Dick jokes. So did Maddox and it was literally an alphabet book of backwards male stereotypes.
It's pretty mucheaningless to say that. Basically any book that gets even remotely decent marketing hits the best seller list.
Additionally the NYT best seller list has its own laundry list of criticisms and complaints. It's had multiple scandals surrounding it of authors bulk buying their own books as well as the double dipping of counting.
Stephen Colbert got a childrens book spoof about a pole (that included strippers in the story) on the New York Times bestseller list as well.
Already being a household name certainly didn't hurt, but yes - its all about advertizing, not talent. Same with everything else honestly.
That's about what I think of her, too.
I wanted to try reading some of her books. I generally hate teenage girl books, they piss me off, but sometimes I give them a chance, just in case I would miss something brilliant. In this case, I'm deleting her book from my to-read list, because she sounds like she has the mental capacity of her target audience. Sad, sad womanchild.
On a sidenote, am I the only one who keeps noticing anti-boy messages in these pathetic teen girl power fantasies? It always starts out with the girl talking about her life, in which they usually have to mention that boys are aaaaall such misogynists. Like that piece of shit Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier or The Night Itself by Zoe Marriott.
they usually have to mention that boys are aaaaall such misogynists.
Seriously? Like, that stuff is actually printed in real books? I imagined that young-adult fiction was a ghetto filled with shovelware, but that's just awful.
In the Marriott book two girls are at a party, they start dancing. Then the main character thinks to herself that she is totally used to guys sexually harassing her while dancing, like they always do, then stomps on a dude's foot. Later on a guy has a normal conversation with her. She sees a supernatural monster after that and needs to sit down, because she panicked. Her friend's reaction is accusing the guy of putting something in her drink to rape her. This is an innocent dude.
A few scenes earlier the friend girl ( who is a black lesbians) talks about some hot chick. To which the protagonist says something about how she needs to stop objectification like men, because that is the betrayal of feminism.
Yup, that's "female empowerment Young Adult Fiction" these days... the alternative being Twilight. Same degree of self-infatuation and lazy character building, completely different message but just as ham-handed in delivery.
There's some pretty damn good YA fiction out there - don't get me wrong. But its become the catch-all genre for every shitty romance/horror/fantasy/scifi author who can't appeal to anyone more mature than a middle schooler.
Shit. That sucks. I used to like Marriott's books, back when they had nice stories without the feminism bullshit, when I was in secondary school.
Feminism is destroying people, I swear. It's like no one can look at anything anymore without crying out oppression, and these authors are influencing people through their works like a dictator's propaganda.
Eh its not that bad for me because you gotta detach from the author sometimes. Like Margaret Atwood, some of the things she says are...wut? But her books are phenomenal
Also I haven't noticed them, but I tend to stick closer to John Green if I'm reading YA
I had absolutely no idea what she was saying, no joke/sarcasm. Can someone please explain?
Short version, sexism is as rampant as it was 15 years ago because a mechanic called the author "little girl" and she's tired of being told to use her words.
That's the fun part. She's a professional author.
It's a bit more nuanced, she does have some solid examples of disgraceful behavior, but that's the fundamentals of it.
I dunno, some of those feel pretty r/ThatHappened. "LITERALLY EVERY TIME I WENT TO A GAS STATION I GOT CAT CALLED" and all of the comebacks.
She was driving a 1973 Camaro. Yeah, she'd get some whistles.
It came across as a lot of humblebragging. "I get a lot of unwanted attention because I'm beautiful and I can afford distinctive cars, woe is me." If it all did happen then that's unfortunate for her and people shouldn't act like that, but her vanity comes through loud and clear.
Thank you very much. Everything's a lot clearer now.
On one hand, some of her timeline examples are worth getting mad about. On the other hand, She's got 3 real examples of vileness over 15 years. That's pretty good.
Yeah. Fuck I'm doing a retail gig and I had 3 in one day
Preach, brother. Or sister, or retailkin, or however you identify.
Alright.
People go listening to "Spaceship" by Kanye West. That has been the most accurate description of retail life I've ever heard
Yeah, exactly. No one is going to make it a decade without having some truly enraging experiences. There are billions of people in the world under billions of stressful circumstances. The civil discourse between two of them is bound to break down at some point. If you can fit the number of times into a single Tumblr post, I'd say an underlying social problem probably isn't to blame.
Yep. The worst kind of sexism is the nice guy not, ya know the acid throwing, murdering ones. The nice guy.
I would be pretty offended if a guy referred to me as a "little girl", especially in regards to my car. I'm a full grown woman, not a little girl. Stop treating me like a child and address me like an adult.
Don't worry, guys do that shit to other guys too. And usually with far greater intent to offend.
Yup. I get infantilized and you get called boy. Its a power trip thing
Wow poor thing. Over a 33 year life you've had some inconveniences and people have been less than perfectly nice to you. What a terrible society we live in where bad things ever happen to anybody. As a man, I certainly never have to deal with condescending jackasses or less than completely fair situations.

The tongue in the ear isn't sexism. That guy has problems.
Yeah that is legit wtf!??!?!!!
A friend of mine is an amateur underwear model. She is, honestly, stunningly attractive. I've known her for about 14 years now, and not in all that time has she ever reported anywhere near this bizarre, systematic, persistent level of sexism.
It just baffles me how this Tumblrina can be so set upon while Tanya is so unmolested
I think it depends on location. I have friends who get creeped on in public but that's because we also live in a major city. To each their own
Well, at least she told her followers to not harass this guy on twitter.
Yeah, that's like telling the hornets not to sting after you kick the nest. These people don't think, they just rage.
Reads like bad fiction.
Jesus. That just kept going. Here's what I got out of all of that:
Datsun
I didn't know they were still in business...
I looked it up -- apparently, the brand was recently relaunched.
Are we not allowed to ask women out anymore? (Actually I know I'm not because I'm married, what a shitlord, putting a ring on a women to declare my ownership of her) Yeah so why are men not allowed to approach women in a respectful manner, because she might have to say no? Ok so there are places where it would be disrespectful to approach someone, but in places such as bars, clubs or places where there is a general expectation of social interaction how is this an issue? A man can be respectful in his approach and respectful in rejection!
I am similarly puzzled. Thank God my wife had been brainwashed by the patriarchy to enjoy PIV rapesex, to look to me as a protector, and to enjoy caring for me the way I enjoy caring for her.
I honestly don't know whether to tag that as sarcasm or not.
You're furious for good reason! Women make up 93% of workplace deaths, commit suicide 4-8x more than men, die nearly a decade earlier, recieve less than a quarter of medical research funding, comprise the bulk of the homeless and medically untreated, recieve seven time the prison sentences for the same crime, have shocking dropout rates because education is waging a war on girls - no wonder you're furious! You have every reason to be! Rage against the machine that even shames you for talking about all of this!
Wait. No. That not women. You just had a guy say he'd work extra hard for you because of who you are. Well, I suppose that's pretty terrible, too.
High five for being a man! we are awesome.
