I'm using the x effect to make sure I do a bit of language every day. I'm learning Italian, Cantonese, Latin and doing some maintenance of Mandarin. I'm not in a big rush with any of the languages though. It's for fun. The x effect is just to make sure I do something every day. In the past, though I have used it to focus on learning characters and I did learn hundreds of characters in a two week period.

Probably not applicable to what OP wants, but it's working for me and my particular goals.

I started using the x effect to learn Spanish and I definitely at least doubled my knowledge within a few weeks (I've only taken one trimester). It helped me get more interested and motivated to learn daily instead of only doing it when I remember. I did also try to learn German the same way but wasn't nearly as motivated so I didnt learn much.

tl;dr Using X effect to learn languages is helpful but it mostly depends on how determined you are to learn in the beginning.

Consider you are doing this to form a good habit. 25 minutes of Spanish a day. OK did it X.

After a few months you might find yourself doing 25 minutes, going to hang out with Spanish speakers, or taking a day off because you are busy.

You will make progress and find methods to make you effective. Oh and make a habit. The system works in many aspects.
