#CONTEST CLOSED, THANKS EVERYONE!!!
#Welcome to the 1-Handed Towel Hang Contest!
###Final Leaderboard:
-
u/MarcusBondi with 0:27!
-
u/scleropages with 0:21!
-
u/Yaad_Mohammad wtih 0:14!
###Materials:
-
One standard bath towel. If your towel is very different in size, shoot us a modmail with clear photos/vid of its measurements. Larger towels will generally be allowed, but significantly smaller ones might not be allowed. Same goes for towels of unusual texture. We don't want you using something grippier, etc.
-
Something to hang the towel from. A bar or tree branch is fine. If you want to use something unusual, shoot us a modmail with a pic or vid of the object in question. It should be fine, we just want to make sure it won't make the hanging easier on you.
Tip: With other hanging contests, people have found that it's a lot easier to hang from a bar with enough height that your feet stay off the ground with no additional effort. Touching the ground is not allowed, and actively keeping your feet pulled off of the ground can add enough fatigue/distraction to interfere with your performance. Someone might win by only one second, after all!
-
One hand. Two hands are ok, and is often the recommended level of hand ownership. But the second one is optional and not to be used in this contest.
-
Chalk is optional. The use of other grip aids, like tacky, will result in disqualification, and possibly deportation.
-
A timer is optional, and not required for judging. Some people have found it helpful to have a time goal to beat, especially when re-entering to beat someone else's time. Others find that it distracts them from putting their full effort into the task at hand. Up to you.
###Rules:
The goal of this contest is to hang from one hand for as long as possible, using one towel. The interpretation and application of the rules is up to the judges' discretion, and their word is final. Here's how it must be done:
-
Identify yourself to the camera at any point during the video. Most people use a piece of paper with their Reddit username and the date written on it.
-
Drape one standard bath towel over your chosen bar, and take your grip. The draping may be done ahead of time, but please unravel the towel at some point and show the camera that it has not been altered.
-
Standard vertical grip must be used, it should look like this for this particular contest. The entire circumference of the bundled towel ends must be enclosed within the hand. No hook grip, please, the thumb stays over the fingers if they meet. No sticking the thumb or fingers in between the folds of the towel.
-
The towel halves that hang down for gripping must remain mostly straight and vertical the entire time. No twisting it up, wrapping it around the hand, tying it in knots, etc.
-
Your time starts when your weight is exclusively supported by one hand on the towel. Your time finishes when you support your weight with something else, or when your hand leaves the towel. This time becomes your score.
-
Switching hands is not permitted. The hand you grab with is the hand that competes. If your hand slips, but you catch yourself with that same hand before another bodypart contacts the ground or other supporting object, you may continue the attempt.
-
Your entire body must be in shot the whole time. The part of the bar responsible for holding you up must be in shot the whole time. If this is violated at any point, the judges may rule your attempt as "finished" at that point in the video.
-
Slight variations on the hang are permitted (bent elbow, etc), as long as they don't cause you to violate the other rules. For instance, you may hang at the top of a pull-up postition (aka bent arm hang). No special points will be awarded for difficult holds. You may do whatever you want with your other hand, as long as it doesn't cause a violation of any other rule.
-
Score will be awarded in comments when two or more judges have a chance to review the video. Judges' discretion applies and their ruling is final.
-
Top 3 contestants will have special flair in r/griptraining, as well as have their names recognized in the leaderboard post for the foreseeable future!
-
This contest is open until midnight EST on May 31, 2015. Until then, you may re-enter as many times as you like.
