[Spoiler] HoW gives us our first chance to translate Fallen language into English. [Lore]

UPDATE 2: I've drafted an attempt at translating individual Fallen words!

Update: Compiled clips of Variks' translations

^(Lemme know if I missed any!)

Back in the day, I wrote a huge post predicting the content of Destiny based on the development of ODST and Reach. The post contains a lot of speculation that came to be, and a lot of things that were plainly cut.

In it, I shared that the reason Bungie went back to alien language for the Covenant in Reach was because they wished to study and learn how to write entire languages in preparation for Destiny.

Not many people know this, but Bungie actually wrote an entire Sanghelios language for the voice actors to do their Covenant dialogue in. An entire alien language. Not just warblgarlblarrgh or reversed English.

In truth, I have no source for this other than a private conversation with Marty O'Donnell prior to his leaving the company. I believe it's plain to see now, however.

So, thanks to Variks, we can now begin to roughly translate Fallen dialogue. I believe he gives us just enough variation on defined words to even begin to interpret generic Fallen mob dialogue, given context clues and the like.

I'm excited to begin to phonetically lay out sentences and match them up to the translations already provided. Perhaps we can discover even more lore as a result, straight from the horse's mouth.
